Iwaki Province (718)

Iwaki ( Japanese 石城国 , Iwaki no kuni ) was a short-lived province of Japan during the Nara period . It extended along the Pacific coast of today's Fukushima Prefecture and along the southern part of today's Miyagi Prefecture , in contrast to the later Iwaki Province ( 磐城国 ) but not as far as the Abukuma basin .

history

The province arose together with the Iwase province in the 5th month 718 as a separation from the Michinoku (Mutsu) province . Between 722 and the 3rd month 724 it was again added to the Michinoku Province.

The province was divided into 6 districts ( kōri ):

Iwaki ( 石城郡 , Iwaki no kōri )
Shineha ( 標葉郡 , Shineha no kōri )
Namekata ( 行方郡 , Namekata no kōri )
Uda ( 宇太郡 , Uda no kōri )
Watari ( 曰理郡 , Watari no kōri )
Kikuta ( 菊多郡 , Kikuta no kōri ; previously Hitachi Province )
