At the beginning of the 20th century, the name Rainer was hardly known in Germany. Its popularity rose in the late twenties and took another boost in the late thirties. In the forties and fifties, the name was among the ten most given boy names a few times. After that, its distribution initially decreased somewhat, and sharply decreased in the 1980s.
