Rafael Rotter (also Raphael Rotter ; born June 14, 1987 in Vienna ) is an Austrian ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Vienna Capitals in the Austrian ice hockey league since 2008 .

Career

Rafael Rotter played from 2001 to 2004 with the Wiener Eislöwen in the Austrian National League . In the 2004/05 season he then played at EC Red Bull Salzburg , where he made his ÖEHL debut. From 2005 to 2008 he stepped for the Canadian franchise Guelph Storm , which had drawn him in the second round of the 2005 CHL Import Draft as the 67th player in the Ontario Hockey League on the ice. After an ankle injury, he moved back to his hometown Vienna in 2008, where he has been under contract with the Vienna Capitals ever since . In 2010, Rotter was suspended for 16 league games after an attack against referee Borut Lesnjak. In 2011 he achieved the best plus / minus balance of the playoffs Austrian ice hockey league .

International

Rotter represented Austria in the junior division at the U18 World Championships in Division I in 2003 , 2004 , when he was the top scorer and best preparer of the tournament, and in 2005, as well as in the U20 World Championships in the Top Division in 2004 and Division I in 2005 and 2007 , when he was , like three years earlier in the younger age group, again had the most points and assists.

In the men's national team he made his debut on April 6, 2007 in a 4-2 win in the friendly against Slovenia in Ljubljana . He and the team from the Alpine region have taken part in the 2011 and 2015 World Championships in the top division . He also represented his colors in qualifying for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi .

Achievements and Awards

In addition, Rotter received the honor of lighting the flame at the opening ceremony of the 13th European Maccabiade on July 6, 2011 on Vienna's Rathausplatz. The reason given by the chairman of the organizing committee, Oskar Deutsch , was that Rotter was one of the most successful Jewish athletes in Austria.
