Mannersdorf an der Rabnitz ( Hungarian : Répcekethely , Croatian : Malištrof ) is a municipality in the Oberpullendorf district , Burgenland , Austria .

Geographical location

The municipality is located in Central Burgenland on the foothills of the Günser Mountains on the border with the neighboring state of Hungary .

The municipality includes the following five localities (population in brackets as of January 1, 2020):

• Mannersdorf an der Rabnitz (572)
• Rattersdorf (431)
• Unterloisdorf (226)

history

Before the birth of Christ, the area was part of the Celtic Kingdom of Noricum and belonged to the surroundings of the Celtic hill settlement Burg on the Schwarzenbacher Burgberg .

Later under the Romans, today's Mannersdorf was then in the province of Pannonia . Mannersdorf is on the Roman Amber Road .

In 2014, archaeological investigations in the run-up to the construction of the B61a uncovered prehistoric remains of settlements and a small Roman necropolis in the suburb of Unterloisdorf . The 30 cremation and body burials date to the Roman Empire and the late Roman era

The Marienberg Monastery , a Cistercian abbey founded in 1197, also belongs to the municipality .

Like all of Burgenland, the place belonged to Hungary (German-West Hungary) until 1920/21 . Since 1898 had due to the Magyarization of the government in Budapest of Hungarian name Répczekethely be used. After the end of the First World War , after tough negotiations, “German-West Hungary” was awarded to Austria in the Treaties of St. Germain and Trianon in 1919. The place has belonged to the newly founded state of Burgenland since 1921.

Sports

In 1961 the Mannersdorf sports club was founded. The sports field was made available by the municipality. When it was accepted into the umbrella organization of the Austrian Gymnastics and Sports Union in the same year, the club was renamed UFC Mannersdorf . The club colors are blue / white. The UFC played the 1993/94 season in the top division of Burgenland, the Landesliga . After relegation to the 1st class, they played again in the 2nd division middle since the 2004/05 season. But after many departures from strong players, you have been playing in the first class middle again since the 2006/07 season. In 2019/20 the team played in 2nd class middle.

Parish council

In addition to Mayor Johann-Georg Horvath (SPÖ) and Deputy Mayor Johann Plemenschits (ÖVP), the executive councils Peter Frühwirth (ÖVP), Walter Josef Kuntner (SPÖ), Adelheid Müller (SPÖ) and Anton Supper (ÖVP) are also members of the community board.

Walter Josef Kuntner (SPÖ, for Klostermarienberg) and Adelheid Müller (SPÖ, for Liebing) and Kurt Supper (SPÖ, for Mannersdorf) were appointed as local mayors.

Mayor is Johann-Georg Horvath (SPÖ). His predecessor Johann Schedl (SPÖ), who had only moved to the head of the community since the direct mayor election in 2012, announced that he would no longer run for office. In the election on October 1, 2017, Horvath was able to prevail as the new mayor with 58.08% against Johann Plemenschits (ÖVP), who achieved 41.92%. Plemenschits was re-elected Vice Mayor in the constituent meeting of the municipal council.

Head of office is Gerda Korner.
