Attractions

San Martín Church
  • The Romanesque church of San Martín , built largely from quarry stones , has a south porch ( galería porticada ), largely made of precisely carved house stones, open through seven arcades ; Behind it is the slightly protruding from the wall flight and the top with a console Fries final archivolts Portal one nave - a gloss of medieval Steinmetz art with a vast ornamental diversity (Rosette Fries, Perlstab , braided , ball bar and blocks Fries ). The west facade, on the other hand, is unadorned and is only raised by a small bell gable ( espadaña ). Two unadorned console friezes run below the eaves of the apse and vestibule. The single nave interior of the church contains remains of frescoes with scenes from the life of St. Martin. The almost undivided apse contains only a narrow east window with two set columns with capitals and an ornamentally decorated round arch (pearl rod and spherical rod) .
San Ginés Church
  • The two-aisled church of San Ginés is designed in a similar way, but the towering bell gable dates from the Baroque period. The unadorned portal of the vestibule was added later because it overlaps the arcade arch on the left. The actual entrance portal is almost a copy of the portal of San Martín , but the final console frieze is partly figurative. In the east wall of the vestibule there is a small double window ( ajimez ) with double pairs of arches, reminiscent of Moorish models from Andalusia .
  • In earlier times wine and other foods were kept cool in underground cellars ( bodegas ) built into the rock or built with stones and filled with soil . On hot summer nights they also served the owners as a 'dining room' and a 'party room'.
