Rickenbach is a municipality and a town in the district Münchwilen the Swiss canton Thurgau .

The political community has existed since January 1, 1998, when the local community Wilen bei Wil separated from the municipal community Rickenbach bei Wil as part of the Thurgau community reform and this was formed with the local community of the same name to form the political community Rickenbach TG .

geography

Rickenbach is located in Hinterthurgau and is a suburb of the city of Wil SG . The place offers many shopping opportunities, as, among other things, the shop opening times in the canton of Thurgau are more liberal than in the neighboring canton of St. Gallen . On the other hand, Rickenbach benefits from the proximity to the city of Wil with its diverse possibilities and good transport connections.

history

Village church of St. Verena from 1644, the lowest stones of the tower date from 838.
In 1923 Rickenbach was still a tranquil village.

Rickenbach was first mentioned as Richinbach in the Henauer deed in 754 . The St. Gallen Monastery owned goods in Rickenbach as early as the 8th century. In 1471 the Abbey of St. Gallen acquired the pledged Vogtei Rickenbach back from Balthasar von Hohenlandenberg . From 1483 to 1798 Rickenbach was subordinate to the Rickenbach court, to which Wilen and from 1506 Busswil also belonged and which was administered by the Wileramt of the St. Gallen monastery. The federal governor of Thurgau carried out maleficent judgments . The Thurlinden Freigericht , to which the farmers of free farms in the area belonged , also met in Rickenbach .

In 838 there was a church in Rickenbach, whose patronage and church structure belonged to the St. Gallen monastery. From 1350 to 1422 Rickenbach was a branch church of Kirchberg . From 1529 to 1531 the parish temporarily followed the Reformed faith. In 1644 today's St. Verena Church was rebuilt. After the dissolution of the Dreizelgenwirtschaft , from the 19th century Rickenbach increasingly ran cattle and dairy farming with a cheese dairy. The mill from the 13th century was expanded to become a wholesale mill (Eberle Mühlen) in 1919 and closed in 2000. The Eschmann bell foundry existed until 1973. After the construction of the A1 motorway and the growth of Wil , the population in Rickenbach doubled from 1960 to 1990.

A similar coat of arms has been used by the municipality since the 19th century. The bridge stands for the Thur crossing , the colors refer to the close relationship between the village and the St. Gallen Abbey. After the local community of Rickenbach bei Wil merged in 1998 to form the political community of Rickenbach, the coat of arms continued to be used.
