Samsun is a province of Turkey on the Black Sea . Their capital is Samsun .

The province has 1,295,927 inhabitants (as of 2016) on an area of ​​9,474 km². It borders on Sinop Province to the west, Ordu to the east and Amasya , Tokat and Çorum to the south . The population density is around 137 inhabitants / km².

İlçe

The province is divided into 17 ilçe , which correspond to a district in rural areas and to an urban district in urban agglomerations. In 1993, the old community of Samsun was dissolved and a large city community (Büyükşehir belediyesi) was established in its place. Members of such a large city municipality are individual municipalities ( Belediye ), whose area coincides with the state administrative district of the same name (ilçe). Communities that were not the seat of an ilçe administration were dissolved. After an administrative reform in 2014, the metropolitan area includes the entire province. The municipal self-government organs at provincial level (İl Meclisi) were dissolved and their responsibilities were transferred to the administration of the metropolitan municipality.
