The Scottish Football League Second Division was held in 2009/10 for the 35th time after the introduction of the Premier League as the third highest Scottish league . In addition, it was the thirty-fifth event as the third highest division of men's football in Scotland under the name Second Division . In the 2009/10 season, 10 clubs competed against each other in a total of 36 match days. Each team played four times against each other team. In the event of a tie, the goal difference counted .
The championship won Stirling Albion , which at the same time secured participation in the First Division season 2010/11 . On the ascent play-offs took Alloa Athletic , the FC Cowdenbeath and Brechin City part. The third place from Cowdenbeath was able to successfully prevail in this and rise next to Albion . FC Arbroath fought in vain in the relegation for the remaining in the Second Division . FC Clyde also had to relegate to the Third Division . The top scorer with 21 goals was Rory McAllister of Brechin City.

Relegation
Participants in the relegation games were FC Arbroath from this year's Second Division, as well as the three teams from the Third Division , Forfar Athletic , FC East Stirlingshire and FC Queen's Park . The first round winners played in the final round for a place for the following 2010/11 Scottish Second Division season .
