Springfield is a town in Penobscot County in the state of Maine in the United States . In 2010 there were 409 inhabitants in 281 households on an area of 99.79 km².

According to the United States Census Bureau , Springfield has a total area of 99.79 km², of which 99.66 km² is land and 0.13 km² consists of water .
Geographical location
Springfield is to the east of Penobscot County. The Wings Mill Stream flows through the northwestern part in a northerly direction and flows into the Mattakeung Stream . Several small rivers flow through the town's area. It is bordered by Lowell Lake in the southeast and Lombard Lake in the south . The surface is slightly hilly, the highest point is the 215 m high Weatherbee Hill .

history
Settlement of the area began in 1830. The northern half of the area was a grant to the Foxcroft Academy . The Academy trustees sold the land for thirty-one cents an acre . The southern part was sold by the state, the lots here were smaller, but the land is said to be some of the best in Maine. On February 12, 1834, the area was organized as a town. It was previously named Township No. 5, Second Range North of Bingham's Penobscot Purchase (T5 R2 NBPP) and Foxcroft Academy Grant .

Springfield belongs to MSAD 30 with Lee, Webster and Winn and forms the Eastern Maine Area School System - AOS 90 with Baileyville, Cooper, Grand Lake Stream, Meddybemps, Princeton, Talmadge, Waite, Lakeville, Carroll Plantation, Macwahoc Plantation and Reed Plantation. In addition to other tasks, education is one of the district's organizational tasks. The following schools are offered in the school district:
