St. Agatha (also Sankt Agatha ) is a municipality in Upper Austria in the Grieskirchen district in the Hausruckviertel with 2131 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020). The community is located in the judicial district of Eferding .
geography
St. Agatha is located at an altitude of 603 m in the Hausruckviertel. The extension is from north to south 7.0 km, from west to east 8.4 km. The total area is 31.8 km². 29.7% of the area is forested, 65.3% of the area is used for agriculture.

history
Originally located in the eastern part of the Duchy of Bavaria, the place belonged to the Duchy of Austria since the 12th century. Since 1490 it has been assigned to the Principality of Austria ob der Enns . In the Upper Austrian Peasants' War of 1626, Stefan Fadinger from St. Agatha played a leading role. During the Napoleonic Wars , the place was occupied several times. Since 1918 the place belongs to the federal state of Upper Austria. After the connection of Austria to the German Reich on 13 March 1938, the place to "Upper Danube" belonged. In 1945 Upper Austria was restored.
St. Agatha was part of the judicial district of Waizenkirchen until 1923 and was added to the judicial district of Peuerbach after its dissolution . At the same time, the community was detached from the Eferding district and part of the Grieskirchen district.
Population development
In 1991 the municipality had 2,079 inhabitants according to the census, in 2001 it had 2,121 inhabitants. The increase occurred despite the negative migration balance (-75), as the birth balance was larger (+117). This continued between 2001 and 2011, so that the population rose to 2,144 people in 2011.

- Stefan Fadinger Museum : The museum is dedicated to Stephan Fadinger, the leader of the Upper Austrian Peasant War (1626). It is located in the new community center and opened in 2009.

- Stefan-Fadinger-Linde: The summer linden tree is located next to a chapel at the Fadingerhof in Parz in the municipality of St. Agatha. The linden tree is registered as an Upper Austrian natural monument under number nd233.
- Pyramid Etzinger Hügel: 13 meter high meditation pyramid, which also serves as a lookout point

- Peasant war game: In 1974 the "Stefan Fadinger Peasant Group St. Agatha" was founded. In 1976, an amateur play group from St. Agatha performed the peasant war game "So will God be gracious to us" (with the main character Stefan Fadinger) for the nationwide 350-year commemorations. In 1981, 1990, 2000, 2004, 2008, 2010 and 2014 this performance was repeated in St. Agatha.

The community colors are blue-yellow-red.
The municipal coat of arms, awarded in 1976, shows a motif from the seal of the chief captain of the rebellious ob-der-ennsischen peasants against the Bavarian lien in 1626, Stefan Fadinger , who was resident in St. Agatha on the Fatting am Wald farm .
