Stetson is a town in Penobscot County in the state of Maine in the United States . In 2010 there were 1202 inhabitants in 621 households on an area of 94.92 km².

Geographical location
Stetson is in the southwest of Penobscot County. The Pleasent Lake is centrally located in the area of Stetson. It is connected to Sebasticook Lake, west of Newport . Edna Pond borders in the south . The surface is flat, without any significant elevations.

history
Stetson goes back to a grant from Massachusetts. The original name was Township No. 3, Third Range North of Waldo Patent (T3 R3 NWP) or Leicester Academy Grant .
As early as 1793, Amesa Stetson, the first private owner of the Stetson Plantation, submitted an application for the organization as a town. This was approved in 1831 and on January 28, 1831 Stetson was organized as a town. The first settlers reached the area in 1801. The former school # 2, which is now a residential building, has been preserved.
