The voiced alveolar approximant (a voiced approximant formed on the alveoli ) has the following phonetic and orthographic realizations in different languages :

  • English : [⁠ ɹ ⁠] is considered the in most English dialects used pronunciation of r .
  • Faroese : [⁠ ɹ ⁠] is also considered the most frequent pronunciation of the Faroese r , as long as it is not before k /, p, t / or / s / is.
  • Yurok : [⁠ ɹ ⁠] can represent both a vowel as a consonant.
