The voiceless retroflex plosive (a voiceless , with the tongue turned back educated plosive ) is similar in pronunciation to a T with specified behind the alveolar ridge tongue. He has the following phonetic and orthographic realizations in different languages :
The voiceless retroflex plosive occurs in almost all South Asian languages, as well as u. a. in Swedish and Norwegian . Examples:
- Hindi : टमाटर (tomato) [ ʈ ʌmaʈʌr ]
- Tamil : எட்டு (eight) [ ˈjɘ ʈː ɯ ]
- Pashto : ټول (all) [ ʈ ol ]
- Swedish : ko rt (short) [ koː ʈ ] (linguistically as a combination of / r / and / t /)
