A voiced alveolar nasal is a consonant created by an alveolar occlusion in the oral cavity. The closure is released nasally . Alveolar sounds are formed by raising the ring of the tongue ( Latin: corōna "tip of the tongue, blade of the tongue") on or against the perineum (against the alveoli).
Phonetic and orthographic realization of the voiced alveolar nasal in different languages:
- German [ n ] : N, n
- English [ n ] : N, n
- French [ n̪ ]: N, n, unless used to nasalize the preceding vowel .
- Italian [ n̪ ]: N, n
- Russian : Н, н
- Spanish [ n̪ ]: N, n
