Studénka (German Stauding ) is a city in the Czech region of Moravia-Silesia . It is located in the last foothills of the Oder Mountains in the wide valley of the Moravian Gate . Around 10,000 people live on 31 square kilometers.
history
The city was first mentioned in 1431. In the Thirty Years' War Polish troops burned it down 1620th Until the expulsion from Kuhländchen in 1946, around 10 percent of the population were German Moravians . In 1959 Butovice was incorporated into Studénka.
In the morning hours of August 8, 2008, a serious railway accident occurred near the city on the main railway line , in which 8 passengers were killed and at least 67 injured when the EuroCity train EC 108 "Comenius" from Krakow to Prague with approx. 140 km / h drove into the rubble of a collapsing road bridge.
On the morning of July 22, 2015, Studénka was the scene of another serious railway accident: a unit of the ČD series 680 as SC 512 Bohumín - Františkovy Lázně collided with a truck that got stuck after the truck driver ignored the warning signals. Two people were killed in the impact and others were critically injured, including the train driver. Another person later died from injuries in the hospital.

The town of Studénka consists of the districts Butovice ( Botenwald ), Nová Horka ( Neuhübel ) and Studénka ( Stauding ).

Transport links
Studénka lies on the Břeclav – Bohumín railway line (formerly the Austrian Northern Railway ). Branch lines run from Studénka to Veřovice and Bílovec, seven kilometers away .
economy
The wagon manufacturer Vagonka Studénka (formerly Vagonka Tatra) was a company steeped in tradition . In 2001 the factory relocated production to Ostrava , where modernized factory halls were available.
Attractions
A railway carriage museum is located in the Baroque Studénka Castle . The St. Bartholomew and All Saints Church and the windmill are also worth seeing.
