The Türkiye 2. Futbol Ligi 1971/72 was the ninth season of the second highest Turkish division in professional men's football. It was started on August 21, 1971 with the 1st game day and ended on May 28, 1972 with the 30th and final game day.

In the 1971/72 season, the TFF 1st Lig was divided into two groups, each with 16 teams, as in the previous season. A total of 32 teams played in two groups for promotion to the Süper Lig and against relegation to the then third-class TFF 3rd Lig . The top two of the two groups rose directly to the higher Süper Lig and the teams in the last two places in the table in both groups were relegated to the subordinate third-tier 3rd Lig. For the first time this season, the goal difference was introduced instead of the goal quotient.

At the beginning of the season, the two relegated teams from the Süper Lig Ankara Demirspor , PTT SK and the four newly promoted teams from the then third-class TFF 3rd Lig Konyaspor , Sarıyer SK , Konya İdman Yurdu , İskenderunspor were added to the 28 teams remaining from the previous season . While Tirespor, Eskişehir Demirspor and Erzurumspor took part in the competition of the 2nd Lig for the first time, Malatyaspor rose again to the 2nd Lig after a five-year absence.

PTT reached the championship of the group red and thus the first participation in the Süper Lig . In the white group , Şekerspor secured the championship and also took part in the Süper for the first time. The Turkish Football Association had the champions of the league determined by a playoff between the two first-placed teams. In this encounter, Şekerspor met against PTT SK and won the championship after a 1-0 win. However, the Turkish Football Association later declared both clubs to be champions of the TFF 1st Lig.

At the end of the season, İzmirspor and Ankara Güneşspor from the red group and Toprak Ofisi SK and Tarsus İdman Yurdu from the white group were relegated.
