Thomas James "TJ" Cloutier (born October 13, 1939 in Albany , California ) is a professional American poker player . He is a six-time bracelet winner at the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas . In 2006 he was inducted into the Poker Hall of Fame . As part of the 50th edition of the World Series of Poker , Cloutier was named one of the 50 best players in poker history in June 2019 .

Poker career

Career

Cloutier specializes in tournament poker , particularly the variants Texas Hold'em and Omaha , both No Limit and Pot Limit . He was the first player in the history of the World Series of Poker (WSOP) to win all three types of Omaha Hold'em ( Pot Limit , Limit and Limit Eight or Better High / Low Split ) at the respective events. Cloutier won many tournaments but never made it to first place in the WSOP main event . Overall, he made it into the top five four times. He was second twice, in 1985 and 2000 . He played several times in the Main Event of the World Poker Tour , where his highest ranking was third place in the World Poker Legends event in 2003. He was named Player of the Year by Card Player Magazine in 1998 and 2002 .

Overall, Cloutier has earned just under 10.5 million US dollars with poker in live tournaments .
