history

The place is first mentioned in 1281 as "Vatenbach". The place name is derived from the name of the water body, whose defining word is the verb waten. It is called a shallow stream that you can wade through.

Originally, Wattenbach was largely owned by Gottfried von Heideck and his wife Kunigunde and was sold in 1314 to the Nuremberg patrician Ulrich Haller, whose descendants sold the property to Heilsbronn Abbey in 1395 .

In the Salbuch of the Nuremberg nursing office Lichtenau from 1515 10 subject families are given for Wattenbach: 8 subjects were subordinate to the Heilsbronn monastery, 2 subjects to the municipal bailiff office of Eschenbach of the Teutonic Order .

In the 16-point report of the Heilsbronn Monastery Office from 1608, 5 farmers and 3 Koebers are given for Wattenbach who were subordinate to the Brandenburg-Ansbach Monastery Administrator Office in Heilsbronn . The subjects of the Teutonic Order are not listed. In the Thirty Years' War all farms were burned down. Only in 1665 could four farms be brought back to the man.

In the official description of the Lichtenau nursing office from 1748, the place is part of the Immeldorf main team. There were 10 subject families, all of whom were foreigners.

Towards the end of the 18th century there were eleven properties and a community shepherd's house in Wattenbach. The high court exercised the Lichtenau nursing office, the village and community rulership was held by the Heilsbronn monastery administrator. The landlords were the Heilsbronn monastery administration office (4 farms, 1 farmyard, 3 estates, 1 mill, 1 forge with the right to fire) and the Eschenbach parish and beneficiary foundation (1 farm).

In 1806 Wattenbach came to the Kingdom of Bavaria . As part of the community edict, Wattenbach was assigned to the Sauernheim tax district, formed in 1808 . It also belonged to the rural community of Sauernheim, founded in 1810 . With the second community edict (1818), Wattenbach split up with Ballmannshof , Erlenmühle , Gotzendorf and Gotzenmühle from Sauernheim and formed a rural community. It was subject to the Heilsbronn Regional Court in administration and jurisdiction and the Windsbach Rent Office in the financial administration . From 1862 to 1879 Wattenbach was administered by the Heilsbronn District Office , since 1880 by the Ansbach District Office (renamed the Ansbach District in 1938 ) and the Heilsbronn Rent Office (1920–1929: Heilsbronn Tax Office , from 1929: Ansbach Tax Office ). The jurisdiction remained with the district court Heilsbronn until 1879, 1880–1956 district court Heilsbronn , since 1956 district court Ansbach . The municipality had an area of 5.948 km². In the course of the regional reform , this was incorporated into Lichtenau on January 1, 1972.

Wattenbach had its own school from 1839 to the 1960s.
