Guidelines for writing articles

Please feel free to announce your new Singapore-related articles here (newer articles at the top). Before doing so, please check that they comply with the following guidelines:

  • The articles must be notable.
  • Statements and facts must be backed up by adequate citations and references.
  • Where possible, please create articles that are at least "Start class". Over 53% of Singapore-related articles are currently of Stub class (click here to see the statistics), and many of these were created and then neglected. Instead of creating a new stub article, why not consider expanding an existing one?
  • Do not create a list if more than half of the articles that will be in the list have not been written yet.

Sticking to these guidelines will help to minimise the unnecessary listing of articles for deletion by other editors, and the subsequent hassle involved in fellow SGpedians appealing for their retention (click here for recent examples). We have already lost a fair number of articles which could have been expanded, and thus wasted the efforts of the editors who created them. If you need help or would like to seek the collaboration of experienced editors on an article, do post a message at our talk page.

To help fight vandalism of articles, please add articles that you are interested in to your watchlist and revert any vandalism that occurs.

DYK suggestions

Any new articles that have an interesting or unusual fact in them should be suggested for the "Did you know?" box on the Wikipedia main page. DYK has a 120-hour time limit from the creation or major expansion of the article. Also consider adding such articles to the Singapore Portal.

Good Article drive

The aim of the Good Article (GA) drive project is to increase the number of Singapore-related GA articles in Wikipedia. To take part, simply nominate an article with GA potential below and "adopt" it, or another article. Then work alone or with other SGpedians to bring the articles you have adopted up to GA status. Articles undergoing a GA drive are not owned by those participating in the collaboration; even if you are not a collaborator, do be bold and improve articles undergoing a GA drive.

Articles don't write themselves. So write them!
