The Austrian women's soccer championship was held in 2000/01 for the 29th time after the 35-year break between 1938 and 1972. The top division is the women's Bundesliga and was held for the 19th time. The second highest division , this season the 23rd edition, was divided into four regional leagues, with the 2nd division middle for the first time, the 2nd division east and the regional league west for the 7th time and the regional league Styria for the 2nd time. Austrian soccer champions became USC Landhaus for the twelfth time . The champions of the second highest division were SV Garsten (middle), SC Damen Dörfl (east), FC Lingenau (west) and LUV Graz (Landesliga Styria).

Season course
The USC Landhaus became champions in the top division , winning their twelfth title overall. At the same time, they are entitled to participate in the 2002/03 UEFA Women's Cup , which will be held for the second time next season. This season's relegation is ESV Süd-Ost.

Second performance level
In order to reduce the costs for the clubs, this is played out in four regional groups: 2nd division center, 2nd division east, regional league west. This season, the champions of the Styrian regional league had the right to promotion.
The second performance level consisted of three leagues, separated by region:
- 2nd division center with the clubs from Carinthia ( KFV ), Upper Austria ( OFV ) and Salzburg ( SFV )
- 2nd Division East with the clubs from Burgenland ( BFV ), Lower Austria ( NÖFV ) and Vienna ( WFV ),
- Landesliga Steiermark ( StFV ) and
- Regionalliga West with the clubs from Tyrol ( TFV ) and Vorarlberg ( VFV ).
In the next season, Carinthian clubs had the option of joining the 2nd Middle Division or the Styrian Regional League. That is why SV Spittal / Drau played in the 2nd division center until the 2008/09 season and ASV St. Margarethen / Lavanttal played in the Styrian regional league for the next two years.

As part of the competition, which was carried out in championship mode, each team played twice against each participating opposing team (a first round with a second round). The right to the home results from the draw.

2nd Division East
mode
The championship in the 2nd Division East each team played once against each team in the basic season in autumn. The home right was decided by lot. In the spring, the field of participants will be separated from seven clubs, the first four played in the upper play-off for promotion to the women's Bundesliga, the last three in the lower play-off for relegation to the respective national league.
Season course
The league consisted of seven teams compared to the previous year, in which eight clubs took part. Compared to last year, the ASK Erlaa were represented in this championship instead of the promoted club SC Stattersdorf and the relegated ASV Nickelsdorf to the state league . This season, SC Damen Dörfl was the champion in the 2nd Division East , which means that it is entitled to play in the top performance class next season.

The league consisted of eight clubs that played a round trip against each other. The champions of the Regionalliga West were determined in 14 rounds.
Season course
The Regionalliga West began on August 26, 2000 and ended on June 16, 2001 with the 14th round. The opening game was the match between FC Egg and New Energy 95 Dornbirn . The champions were FC Lingenau , who did not want to move up to the top division. FC Götzis was last.
