In the 2. Bundesliga 2003/04 the achieved 1. FC Nuremberg , Arminia Bielefeld and 1. FSV Mainz 05 promotion to the Bundesliga .
Season course
With 1. FC Nürnberg one of the big favorites prevailed quite early on. On matchday 31, the FCN secured early promotion to the top division with a 3-1 win over pursuers Arminia Bielefeld . Arminia Bielefeld was also certain to be promoted before the last match day.
It was thus the third and last eligible rank for which four teams fought on the last day of the match. The season ended tragically for Alemannia Aachen . With a 0: 1 at the relegation-threatened Karlsruher SC , they fell from the promotion places to sixth place, before they lost the DFB Cup final against Werder Bremen 2: 3 a week later . So the season ended without any countable success and with the resignation of coach Jörg Berger . After all, Alemannia qualified for the UEFA Cup by taking part in the DFB Cup final , as Werder Bremen was taking part in the Champions League in the coming season .
The promotion finally succeeded 1. FSV Mainz 05 , which had missed it twice in the two years before. Up until the last match day, the Mainz team was never on a promotion spot in the second half of the season.
The season ended disappointingly for SSV Jahn Regensburg , who had to return to the amateurs after their first promotion to the second division. It looked good for a long time for the newcomer, who had been in ninth place until matchday 27 and had only slipped to the relegation places in the last three matchdays. The Karlsruher SC was again able to stay in the league on the final day.

Statistical
- With Arminia Bielefeld it was only for the second time since the existence of the 2nd Bundesliga that a team managed to rise despite five home defeats (previously VfL Bochum , 1999/2000). But never before has a team lost so consistently with the same result (1: 3).
- The VfB Lübeck was the first team relegated to the Master taught two defeats since the founding of the single track 2. Bundesliga. Before that there was only one time: In 1977/78 champions Arminia Bielefeld lost to relegated 1. FC Bocholt 2: 3 (H) and 0: 5 (A) in the 2. Bundesliga North .
- The biggest win this season came from SpVgg Greuther Fürth (7-1 against Aachen).
- The extremely rare result of 3: 5 was achieved three times this season. That happened last in the 1992/93 season (two 3: 5, one 5: 3).
- The 1. FSV Mainz 05 (towards Aachen) and the MSV Duisburg (Ahlen) succeeded as a single, a temporary two-goal deficit into a 3: 2 victory convert.
- The SpVgg Unterhaching playful only team twice a 2: 0-guide (3: 3 in Aue, 2: 2 in Ahlen). The FC Erzgebirge Aue succeeded as the only team twice, not after losing a two-goal deficit (3: 3 against Nuremberg to 1: 3, 3: 3 against Unterhaching to 0: 2).
- The FC Erzgebirge Aue shot out in a very short time from the beginning to the clearest guidance. After 19 minutes they were already 4-0 in Karlsruhe. In the end it wasn't quite as clear - they won 5-3.
- The game with the worst attendance was the game between Alemannia Aachen and 1. FC Nürnberg in front of exactly 0 paying spectators. After spectators riots in the first game, no spectators were allowed to attend this encounter in the replay.
- The best-attended game was the match between 1. FC Nürnberg and Rot-Weiß Oberhausen in front of 38,200 spectators on the penultimate matchday. It was precisely in this game that Nürnberg received one of its two home defeats. Of course, this result had no impact. Nürnberg had already been confirmed in advance as a promoted team, but Oberhausen was no longer able to make it onto the promoted positions on the last day of the match.
- The SSV Jahn Regensburg but never at the same time - get impressive Home and Away series. With the 3-0 win in Karlsruhe, Jahn started a small series in which they remained undefeated away five times while they lost at home. In the last six home games they remained unbeaten - but the success on the opponent's place suddenly ended. They lost the last seven away games and were relegated.
- Rot-Weiß Oberhausen won eight away games. No other team was more successful on the opponent's place.
