history

Aircraft Transport and Travel was founded on October 5th, 1916 by George Holt Thomas . The aircraft fleet initially consisted of former Airco DH4A military aircraft , with which flights between Folkestone and Ghent were carried out. Despite a lack of support from the British government, the company undertook a trial transport of passengers between the Hendon military airfield near London and Paris-Le Bourget on July 15, 1919 . The Airco DH9 reached its destination after two and a half hours.

In the following month, AT&T began regular service between the two cities with a DH16 . The first flight on August 25, 1919 was the first international scheduled flight. In November, an airmail service was launched between Hawkinge in Kent and Cologne with six Airco DH9A that had been taken over by the Royal Air Force . The aircraft came back into the possession of the British armed forces in 1920.

In addition to the connection from London-Hounslow to Paris, AT&T set up further scheduled flights between London-Croydon Airport and Amsterdam in May 1920 . DH16s were used for these flights carried out on behalf of KLM .

By 1921, the number of companies offering flights between London and Paris rose to three British and three French. In protest against the subsidies the French providers received, the British ended their line service between the metropolises on February 28, 1921. Shortly thereafter, AT&T ceased operations completely. The planes were parked or sold.
