Artur Taymazov ( Russian Артур Борисович Таймазов , Artur Borissowitsch Taimasow ; born July 20, 1979 in Nogir ) is an Uzbek free style wrestler . He won an Olympic silver medal in 2000 and was Olympic champion in 2004 and twice world champion (2003 and 2006). His victories at the Olympic Games in 2008 and 2012 were revoked for doping . He is an ethnic Ossete and was not born in Uzbekistan, but became the most successful Uzbek Olympic participant after changing his nationality.
Career
Artur Taymazov began as a teenager in 1990 in Vladikavkaz , capital of the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania in Russia , whose suburb is his home village of Nogir, with free style wrestling. He initially started for Russia. However, since he did not think he had any chances of being able to compete in the Olympic Games for this country in 2000, he moved to Uzbekistan. Today he lives in Tashkent and starts for Dinamo Tashkent . His trainers there are Salim Abdulvaliyev and Axrol Ro'ziyev. He is 1.90 meters tall and weighs around 114 kg. Artur Taymazov's older brother Timur became Olympic weightlifting champion in 1996, starting for Ukraine .
His first major success on the international wrestling mat was in 2000 when he became Asian super heavyweight champion in Guilin, China . He then qualified at a tournament in Alexandria for participation in the Olympic Games in Sydney , which he won from the Chinese Chen Xing Qiang and Wayne Weathers from Canada . At the Olympic Games, he won over Zsolt Gombos , Hungary , Aydın Polatçı , Turkey , Kerry McCoy , United States and Alexis Rodríguez Valera from Cuba . In the final he lost to David Musuľbes from Russia and won the silver medal.
At the 2001 World Cup in Sofia , Artur Taymazov narrowly missed his first world title because he lost again to David Musuľbes in the final after victories over Jurij Schobitko , Ukraine , Sven Thiele , Germany , Abbas Jadidi , Iran and Alexis Rodríguez Valeri. Also at the 2002 World Cup in Tehran he failed to David Musuľbes, because he lost there after victories over Peter Pecha, Slovakia and Mirko Siaian, Switzerland against this wrestler and only came in 8th place. He still managed to win in 2002 when he won the Asian Games in Busan ahead of Abbas Jadidi and Palwinder Cheema Singh from India .
In 2003 he was then at the World Championships in New York with victories over Kuramagomed Kuramagomedow , Russia, Bozhidar Bojadschiew , Bulgaria , Aleksi Modebadse , Georgia , Serhiy Prjadun , Ukraine and Kerry McCoy champion . In 2004 he was able to celebrate his first Olympic victory at the Olympic Games in Athens . On the way there he defeated Marek Garmulewicz from Poland , Palwinder Cheema, Kuramagomed Kuramagomedow, Aydin Polatçi and Alireza Rezaei , Iran.
The 2005 World Championships in Budapest were disappointing for Artur Taimasow . Although he won there over Raymond Rusland from Suriname , but lost in his next fight against Rareș Daniel Chintojan from Romania , retired and only came in 10th place. A better prepared Artur Taymazov then started at the 2006 World Championships in Guangzhou . He dominated the field and became world champion for the second time with victories over Jose Cuba Vázquez, Spain , Ruslan Basijew , Armenia , Ottó Aubéli , Hungary , Recep Kara , Turkey and Kuramagomed Kuramagomedow. He also won the Asian Games, which took place in Doha , ahead of Fardin Masoumi Valadi from Iran. In 2007 he was unable to successfully defend his title at the World Cup in Baku , as he lost there to Alexis Rodríguez Valera after victories over Rareș Daniel Chintojan, David Vála , Czech Republic , Fardin Masoumi Valadi, Əli İsayev , Azerbaijan and Thomas Rowlands , United States therefore only came in 3rd place.
In 2008 Artur Taymazov achieved his second Olympic victory in Beijing . He defeated Əli İsayev, Disney Rodríguez , Cuba, David Musuľbes, Slovakia and Bakhtiyar Akhmedov from Russia. In 2009 he took a break and concentrated on the most important competitions in the coming years. In 2010 he was runner- up at the World Championships in Moscow . He came to victories over Wadym Tassojew , Ukraine, Aljaksej Schamarau , Belarus , Əli İsayev, and Ioannidis Arzoumanidis from Greece , but lost in the final battle against Biljal Machow from Russia. In 2010 he won the Asian Games in Guangzhou in front of Dschargalsaichany Chuluunbat from Mongolia and in 2011 at the Asian Cup in Tashkent in front of Komeil Ghasemi from Iran, but came to this year's World Cup in Istanbul after victories over Jose Cuba Vázquez, Spain and Disney Rodríguez after a loss to Tervel Dlagnev from the United States only to 8th place.
In 2012 he then instructed all the critics who had written him off at the Olympic Games in London after this poor placement , because he was there with victories over Nick Matuhin , Germany, Komeil Ghasemi, Tervel Dlagnev and Dawit Modsmanashvili from Georgia third time Olympic champion. In September 2014 he was inducted into the FILA International Wrestling Hall of Fame for his services to wrestling .
In 2017, the doping samples from the 2008 Olympic Games were checked using new methods. Taymazov tested positive for Turinabol and Stanozolol . The gold medal was withdrawn from him . In 2019, he was also stripped of the 2012 gold medal.
