action

Cinderella, whose parents are both dead, is raised by her stepmother along with her stepsister Annabella. The stepmother treats the child, whose father died five years earlier, like a maid . For consolation, Cinderella regularly visits her mother's grave, where a dove is watching.

One day she has to bring five of her own piglets to the tavern in the village, where she is to receive a thaler for each piglet . With her donkey Nepomuk, who pulls the cart, Cinderella goes to the inn.

On the way in the forest, her cart with the pigs overturns, so that they run away while she ends up in the mud. A young man, whom Cinderella sees as responsible for her misfortune, helps her to recapture and recharge the pigs. She does not notice that it is Prince Viktor, heir to the throne of the kingdom. All but one piglet can be caught again together. Cinderella continues on her way and receives four talers for four pigs from the landlord.

When she only gives her stepmother and her daughter four thalers, she is accused of keeping one thaler for herself. The two also find a comb in Cinderella's pocket, which she found on her mother's grave, and accuse her of theft. Cinderella has more work to do in the house.

The young prince meets his father, the king, in the castle, who tells him that he will soon succeed him. The king therefore invites all unmarried girls in the country to a festive ball so that the prince can choose a bride.

When Cinderella visits her mother's grave again, she finds a comb again. A messenger from the king announces the invitation to the royal ball to the stepmother and her daughter. Cinderella, who has heard everything, asks her stepmother to be allowed to go to the ball. The stepmother agrees, on condition that Cinderella should do a lot of work. Among other things, she is sent to fetch three sacks of flour from the mill. When she meets an alleged hunter, another mishap happens to her, so that her whole body is full of flour. There she presents her shooting skills.

After Cinderella has done the job to the satisfaction of the stepmother, she and Annabella give her one more, final task: she must pick peas and lentils separately from the ashes. With the help of the pigeons, she also succeeds in doing this in good time, which impresses the stepmother and her daughter. They still refuse to let Cinderella go to the ball on the grounds that she is too dirty and not chic enough for such a party. The stepmother and Annabella drive to the castle and leave Cinderella behind, who visits her mother's grave again. While she lies under the tree in tears, she transforms and gets a ball gown and matching shoes. Her donkey Nepomuk turns into a white horse , which she rides to the castle. There she realizes that the supposed hunter is in reality Prince Viktor. The two dance together, and when the prince asks Cinderella if they would know each other, Cinderella puzzles him, which alludes to their first two meetings in the forest. But the prince cannot solve this riddle. However, the stepmother and her daughter recognize Cinderella and drag it away from the ball, causing Cinderella to trip and lose a shoe. Then she is pushed into the castle pond and locked in a chamber in the ground at home.

The young prince goes in search of Cinderella, but initially only finds one shoe she has lost. He then rides out and finally comes to the stepmother's yard after she has locked Cinderella. On the threshold, he frees the stepmother's daughter. Although the stepmother knows very well that he had Cinderella in mind, she lets Annabella wear a dress that is very similar to the one Cinderella wore at the ball. In addition, she covers her face in order not to be recognized.

The stepmother and her daughter appear before the prince. When he asks Annabella to try on the shoe he found, she does so behind his back. Mother and daughter notice that the shoe is too small, and so the stepmother unceremoniously chops off her daughter's toe and steps in front of the prince again with her daughter. The prince believes that she is the dancer. A dove, who always watched over the grave of Cinderella's mother, pointed out to the prince that there was blood in the shoe and that the bride on the right was still at home. The prince reveals the veiled face and realizes the dizziness. Then Annabella complains about her aching foot. A well-meaning maid frees Cinderella from the basement. Cinderella then runs outside, where she meets the prince, who recognizes her by her appearance and shoe. They both say yes and Cinderella invites all the servants and maids to come with them to the castle. They leave the stepmother and her daughter alone on the farm so that they can see what they are like without maids and servants. Annabella tries to go with Cinderella but is dragged back by the stepmother.

Reviews

“Despite the good acting qualities I can only give this fairy tale 5/10 points. You will recognize the story, but the way it was implemented is absolutely unconvincing. Fairy tales must remain fairy tales! "
