Asterix & Obelix: Mission Cleopatra is the second real-life film in the Asterix comic series from 2002 , which is based on the Asterix tape Asterix and Cleopatra and the cartoon adaptation of this tape from 1968.

action

Cleopatra has made a bet with Caesar . She bets him that the Egyptians will manage to build a palace for him within three months. The not very innovative royal architect Pyradonis is commissioned with the construction, but the only currently unemployed architect in the kingdom, Numerobis. If he does not make it within the set deadline, he will be fed to the crocodiles . Therefore Numerobis asks his Gallic friends with the magic powers for help. Asterix, Obelix and Miraculix make their way to Egypt with the magic potion to help build the palace.

The friends have to defend themselves against acts of sabotage by Pyradonis, even Caesar in a pact with him does not want to lose the bet and has the palace shot at with catapults. However, Asterix can notify the Queen in Alexandria . Cleopatra forces Caesar, who is in love with her, to refrain from interfering. Its soldiers then have to repair the damage done. The construction will be completed on time and Numerobis will be showered with gold. The film ends with a gala banquet in honor of the Gauls .

background

The second real film version of an Asterix comic had a budget of 53 million euros. This film was the most expensive non-English language film in European film history up to its release date . The German - French co-production was realized at locations in France , Morocco ( Ouarzazate ) and Malta .

Remarks

  • The picture that the Red Corsair shows his pirates is the profile of Asterix and Obelix from the comic Asterix and the Goths .
  • Since the right arm of the actor von Numerobis ( Jamel Debbouze ) is paralyzed, this arm is deliberately covered by his costume and not used in the film.

criticism

The lexicon of the international film found: "Long live adaptation of one of the legendary 'Asterix' comics, which, despite a playful star ensemble, never reaches the intelligent depth of the original and largely gets stuck in scenes that are intricately staged and harmless gossip."

The Bayerische Rundfunk said: "Who has believed due to the witty Trailers, the second Asterix film starring Gérard Depardieu and Christian Clavier was successful as the first, you're wrong. There are no more than three really good gags, real Asterix fans will again pull their braids and say: filming Asterix and Obelix is a mission impossible - also in the case of Mission Cleopatra . "

synchronization

The German-language dubbing was done at Film- & Fernseh-Synchron in Berlin based on a dialogue book by Andreas Pollak , who also directed the dialogue .
