The Austrian Darts Open was a ranking tournament in darts and was organized for the first time by the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) from April 27th to 29th, 2012 . It was the first event of the European Darts Tour 2012 , which was carried out as part of the Pro Tour 2012 . The venue was the Arena Nova in Wiener Neustadt .
In his first round game against Jamie Caven , Michael Smith managed a nine dart finish . A round later, Simon Whitlock was able to accomplish this feat against Joe Cullen .
The first winner in tournament history and thus also in the history of the European Darts Tour was the Englishman Justin Pipe , who beat his compatriot James Wade 6: 3 legs in the final.
format
The tournament was played in a knockout system . Game mode in all rounds was a best of 11 legs . Each leg was played in double-out mode.
Prize money
The tournament totaled £ 82,100 in prize money. The prize money was distributed among the participants as follows:
