Badaun is a district in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh .

The area (2011) is 5168 km². The administrative seat is the city of Badaun .

history

In 2012, the new Sambhal district was created from parts of Badaun.

The population is 3,681,896 (2011). The population growth rate from 2001 to 2011 was 19.95%. Badaun has a gender ratio of 863 women per 1,000 men. The district has a literacy rate of 51.29% in 2011, an increase of approximately 13 percentage points compared to 2001. Almost 78% of the population are Hindus and approximately 22% are Muslims .

The urbanization rate of the district was approximately 17.2%. The largest city was Badaun with 159,285 inhabitants.
