history

The Swedish general Pontus De la Gardie (1520 - 1585) led the Swedes to victories and territorial conquests against the Russian Empire in 1580/81. In 1583, following the peace at Pliusmünde, further Russian territories fell to Sweden , which only returned to Moscow in 1595 - after the peace at Teusina . During this period Russian landowners , boyars and officers entered Swedish military services . They received goods in Estonia and in their new living environment became German subjects of Sweden. They also included four brothers from the Baranoff family, their father was the boyar Sakhar ( Russian : Захар Трофимович Баранов), a Russian colonel and landowner near Koporje and Jama in the Vyborg District. The brothers were:

  • Woyn Baranoff (Воин Захарович Баранов, * around 1586, † 1620), he received land on the island of Dagö from Pontus de la Gardie in 1586 and lived on Groß-Kesküll in the Wiek in 1590 , the family went out in 1647.
  • Feodor Baranoff (* around 1587, † around 1613) was born in 1587 by King John III. also enfeoffed with land on Dagö. In 1590 he received the Ochtel estate , and this family also went out.
  • Kassjan Baranoff (also Kassari = Cesar, Касьян Захарович Баранов, † 1628), who was a troop leader in the Swedish service, received from King John III. 1590 the village of Klein-Kesküll . This lending was in 1594 by Sigismund III. and confirmed in 1613 by Gustav II Adolf . In 1610 he received two hooks from the village of Leevre (Lewer) in the municipality of Märjamaa . Eventually he became the progenitor of the older main tribe "House Kasargen" ( Kasari ). This main tribe existed until 1886.
  • Menschick Gregorius Baranoff (derived from Russian младший = the younger, Меньшик Захарович Баранов, 1590 - 1623) was a captain in the Swedish service. He received Lechtigall in 1590 , this property was acquired by Charles IX in 1611 . of Sweden and confirmed in 1613 and 1624 by King Gustav II Adolf . In addition, he received four goods in Finland . King Charles IX gave him, together with three other Estonian knights, the planning order to strengthen the fortress in Neva . Menschik is the progenitor of the younger main line Lechtigall, which has descendants up to the present day.

Nobility

In 1666, the Baranoffs, as Russian nobility, were registered in the Swedish House of Knights . On his own initiative and after submitting the feudal letters, Klaus Johann von Baranoff (* around 1621, † 1686 in Reval), Herr auf Lechtigall, Zacharias von Baranoff († 1663), Herr auf Klein-Kesküll and Friedrich Johann Gotthard von Baranoff at the Estonian Higher Regional Court obtained an “attestatum nobilitaris”, which confirmed “that the Baranoff family is to be led among the local nobility from 1592 on” . As a result, the Baranoff family was registered in the Estonian knight bank on February 1, 1745 . In 1830 Karl Friedrich von Baranoff and in 1842 Dettloff Christoph von Baranoff were included in the Livonian nobility register in the Ösel register .
