Horrenbach-Buchen is a municipality in the Thun administrative district in the canton of Bern in Switzerland .

geography

The community is divided in two by Teuffenthal. The western district of Buchen forms the western half and essentially consists of the hamlet of Buchen ( 1008  m above sea level ) and a few individual farms. The eastern half of Horrenbach does not have a settlement center, but consists of a number of groups of houses and individual farmsteads. The Chäsereigraben brook , which flows into the Zulg from the left , is the only body of water in the Buchen district, while there are some streams in the Horrenbach district. This is also much larger. Its borders lead from the Sichle ( 1952  m above sea level ) in a north-easterly direction along the Sigriswil ridge to the Fallbach . This forms the border to the neighboring municipality of Eriz and unites with the Dräckergrabenbach and the Kaltbach (along with numerous other streams) to form the Zulg. This forms the entire northern municipal boundary up to the confluence of the Prässerenbach . From the lower reaches of the Prässerenbach, the municipal boundary runs in a south-easterly direction back to the Sichle. In the Horrenbach part of the municipality there are numerous large forest areas along the streams. The largest forest areas, however, are the Hornegg and Eriz forests . The municipality is (just behind Thun and Eriz, but clearly behind Sigriswil) the fourth largest village in the district of Thun. The large proportion of mountain area also contributes to this. A total of 10.0% of the total community area of 2037 ha is therefore unproductive area (mountains, rocks). Together with the 38.2% of the municipality, which is covered by forest and wood, that makes up almost half of the territory. The other half (exactly 50.4%), namely in beeches, is used for agriculture and only 1.5% is settlement area.

The district of Buchen borders Unterlangenegg in the north, Oberlangenegg in the northeast , Homberg in the southwest and Teuffenthal in the southeast . The district of Horrenbach borders Eriz in the north and east , Beatenberg in the south-east and Sigriswil in the south and south-west .
