Population development

Residents 384 344 1,026 495 1,151

The population decline since the 1950s is due to the mechanization of agriculture , the abandonment of small farms and the resulting loss of jobs. The increase since the beginning of the 21st century is mainly due to the proximity to the city of Salamanca.

economy

For centuries, the population of the community lived on agriculture, which included cattle breeding, on a self-sufficient basis ; Surplus could be sold on the street and weekly markets in Salamanca. There were craftsmen and small traders only in Salamanca.

history

It is believed that the Celtic tribe of the Vettones settled here, but there are no traces of them, as well as of the Romans , Visigoths and even of the Moors who advanced north in the 8th century . After the Christian reconquest ( reconquista ) (1200) King gave Alfonso IX. from León the area of Carrascal for repopulation ( repoblación ) free.

Attractions

The church, built mainly from rubble stones , probably dates from the 14th century; the dominant three-part bell gable (espadaña) , built from precisely hewn stones, is a later ingredient. The three-aisled interior is spanned by wooden ceilings.
