Denis Sergejewitsch Dmitrijew ( Russian Денис Сергеевич Дмитриев ; born March 23, 1986 in Tyrnowo , Ryazan Oblast , Russian SFSR , USSR ) is a Russian track cyclist .
Athletic career
In 2003 Denis Dmitrijew was runner-up both at the European Track Championships as well as at the Junior World Track Championships in team sprints . The following year he won the team sprint title at the Junior European Championships in Valencia , together with Michail Schichaljow and Stojan Wassew. In 2008 he was again European champion in the team sprint (U23), together with Wasew and Pawel Jakuschewski . In 2008 he started at the Olympic Games in Beijing in the sprint and team sprint.
In 2010, Denis Dmitrijew was European champion of the elite in the sprint; in the final he surprisingly beat the Frenchman Kévin Sireau , world champion in the team sprint of 2008 and multiple runner-up world champion. He was able to repeat this success in 2012 and 2013 . At the 2012 Olympic Games in London , he finished seventh in the team sprint, together with Sergei Kutscherow and Sergei Borissow , and fifth in the sprint. At the 2012/13 Track Cycling World Cup , he won the overall sprint ranking.
At the UCI Track World Championships in 2013 in Minsk , Dmitryev was runner-up in the sprint world championship, in 2014 he won bronze and in 2015 he was runner-up again. At the European Championships in the same year he was third in the keirin. In 2016, Denis Dmitrijew was nominated to take part in the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , where he won the bronze medal in the sprint and took 13th place in the Keirin.
In April 2017, Denis Dmitriev won the sprint world champion title . This makes him the first male driver from Russia to win a gold World Championship medal in an individual track discipline. In the same year he won three runs in world cups.
In 2019 Dmitrijew won bronze at the 2019 World Championships, with Alexander Sharapov and Jakuschewski bronze in the team sprint and at the European Games in keirin and sprint, and he became vice European champion in keirin.
