Edinburgh West is a constituency for the British House of Commons . It was created in 1885 and covers the western areas of the Edinburgh Council Area . The constituency sends a representative.

Before the elections in 1997, Edinburgh was divided into six constituencies, one of which, Edinburgh East and Musselburgh, also included the city of Musselburgh in neighboring East Lothian . In the course of the electoral reform in 2005, the number of constituencies in Edinburgh was reduced to five, but they only cover the Council Area itself. Since then, the area covered by Edinburgh West is no longer identical to the Edinburgh Western constituency for the Scottish Parliament .
