occupation

Ein Schloß am Wörthersee is a 34-part German-Austrian television series that was produced by Lisa Film for RTL between 1990 and 1992 . Roy Black plays the lead role in seasons 1 and 2, and Uschi Glas in season 3 .

action

Lennie Berger inherits the “ Schlosshotel Velden ” from his uncle and wants to get it going because it looks a bit “out of date”. This initially met with resistance from the employees and the hotels around the Wörthersee . At the forefront is the hotel director Reiner Janssen, who sees Berger as a competitor. Surprisingly, he accepts the post of director at the competing spa hotel "Karnerhof" in order to be able to exert more pressure on the castle hotel. The chambermaid Ida Jellinek, whom Berger likes extremely well, is also switching to “Casino Velden”. Over time, the love affair between the two becomes serious, only Berger's former lover Krista Springer tries to stand between them. The director Anja Weber also later leaves the castle hotel to take over the management of the spa hotel, which is why Berger is gradually left with no management staff.

After the end of the season, Berger began renovating the castle hotel. The Springer travel agency, whose heiress is the widow Krista Springer, is exerting particular pressure because it insists on opening at the start of the season. It is then also the widow Springer who takes on a guarantee from the bank for the castle hotel, whereby her finances are in a loop. Since Berger is too busy with his work, he neglects Ida, to whom he is now engaged. This turns away from him as a result. When she meets the French businessman André Blondeau, the charming man falls in love with her. Finally, Max, Berger's son from his first marriage, comes to visit, who also causes a stir.

When Berger dies completely unexpectedly, his son Max inherits the castle hotel. Berger's ex-wife Elke Berger takes over the management of the hotel until her son Max comes of age, the renovation of which is still not finished. Her alien brother Leo Laxeneder, now an estate administrator, wants to help her with this. But he almost loses the hotel to the devious businessman Thomas Kramer. In the meantime, he is even firmly convinced that he has taken half of the hotel. Meanwhile, Elke Berger also leases the luxury hotel "Park's" in order to employ her staff.

production

Emergence

In 1988, RTL boss Helmut Thoma made producer Karl Spiehs an offer to take over a series of films with 45 minutes per episode. Spiehs, who for his part had thought of a new Wörthersee film, suggested the title of the series: A castle hotel on Lake Wörthersee with Roy Black as the hotel manager. Black and the castle remained, only the hotel fell out of the title during production.

Staff and development

The individual episodes were directed by Franz Josef Gottlieb , Harald Leipnitz , Otto W. Retzer, Horst Kummeth, Holm Dressler , Peter Hill and Harald Vock. The scripts were written by Erich Tomek (29 episodes), Harald Vock (one episode), Robert Havalie (four episodes, one with Erich Tomek), Gaby Zerhau (one episode) and Otto W. Retzer (one episode with Erich Tomek).

Many scenes were designed as an homage to the hit film of the 1960s and 1970s. A number of actors, musicians and presenters known in particular from this period have guest appearances on the series. Mention should be made of Marijke Amado , Wolfgang Ambros , Eddi Arent , Jochen Busse , David Cassidy , Dennie Christian , Hans Clarin , Drafi Deutscher , Petra Drechsler , Fritz Eckhardt , Falco , Ottfried Fischer , Herbert Fux , Linda Gray , Jürgen Hingsen , Harald Leipnitz , Hias Mayer , Nina Hagen , Larry Hagman , Jörg Haider , as well as the Wildecker Herzbuben , Udo Jürgens , Harald Juhnke , the Kessler twins , Hildegard Knef , Dagmar Koller , Ossy Kolmann , Peter Kraus , Mike Krüger , Zachi Noy , Thommi Ohrner , Gunther Philipp , Telly Savalas , Werner Schulze-Erdel , Georg Thomalla , Klausjürgen Wussow , Nockalm Quintett and Albin Berger .

The actor Hansi Kraus played again the role of Pepe Nietnagel , with whom he became known in the seven-part film series Die Lümmel von der Erste Bank (1967–1972). Pepe's fictional lifeline has turned the cheeky student into a chaplain .

Filming

The fictional castle hotel was Velden Castle , which had been used as a location for film and television recordings since the 1950s. With the death of Roy Black in 1991, Uschi Glas took over the lead role from the third season. The producer Karl Spiehs and the main screenwriter Erich Tomek had cameo appearances.

Product placement

What is striking about the first television series produced for the private broadcaster RTL are numerous cases of undisclosed product placement . For example, VISA credit cards, Acer IT products, Casino Austria, Sixt car rental, Hertz car rental, slot machines from adp Gauselmann, tobacco products in general, Holsten Pilsener and beverages from the Eckes brand and vehicles from the Nissan brand are mentioned.

According to the magazine Stern , the tobacco industry paid money for surreptitious advertising in the series to Lisa-Film GmbH in Munich.
