The league was in season 2018/19 as in the previous year played in two regional groups North and South. It was organized by the German Ice Hockey Federation (DEB) and formed the third highest division in German ice hockey . The season started in September 2018. At the end of the season, the two groups played a promoted player for the DEL2 in joint play-offs .

Oberliga Nord

Attendees

13 clubs played in the north group:

The planned increase to 16 teams did not materialize. The champions of the Regionalliga West, Herford EV , the Regionalliga Ost, ELV Tornado Niesky , and the Regionalliga Nord, Weserstars Bremen , waived the promotion. Therefore, the athletic relegated Harzer Falken remained in the league. Other potential successors, such as the runners-up in the above regional leagues, did not submit an application for promotion to the league. The EHC Timmendorfer beach 06 withdrew from the league back and stood in August 2018 an application for insolvency .

mode

The teams played a double round (48 games). After the pre-play-offs of the teams in places seven to ten, the joint play-offs with the group south followed. For the teams in places 11 to 13, the season was over after the main round. Those placed 11 and 12 were qualified for the season 2019/20 of the Oberliga Nord, whereas the last placed had to be relegated to the regional league as a relegated athlete.

On the 26th day of the season, 1. Hamburger Eissport GmbH applied for Crocodiles Hamburg to open planned insolvency proceedings . Even if the game operation could be maintained for the time being despite the planned bankruptcy, the club was excluded from the playoffs of the season. Thus, the same rule as in the Oberliga Süd applied to SC Riessersee at the beginning of the season. Since the Hamburg team was among the top ten teams after the main round, they were put back to eleventh place and the teams placed behind moved up and completed the field of participants for the final play-offs.

Oberliga Süd

Attendees

Twelve teams competed in the south group, who played out the participants in the championship round after a joint single round and later in two regional groups (left / right side of the following table):

The Deggendorfer SC rose to the DEL2. The champions of the Regionalliga Süd-West, SC Bietigheim-Bissingen 1b, were not eligible for promotion to the Oberliga-Süd as the second team of a DEL2 club. The TEV Miesbach is relegated .

The Oberliga Süd was originally supposed to be increased to 14 teams, but this could not be realized due to a lack of potential participants from the regional leagues East, South-West and Bavarian League.

The SC Riessersee announced the withdrawal from the DEL2 on May 16, 2018, but later applied for the DEL2 license anyway. In the absence of a successful haircut, however, the license was refused. The club was finally admitted to the league with conditions. Due to the ongoing plan insolvency , Riessersee was not allowed to participate in the championship round. The successor in the DEL2 was the sporty relegated Bayreuth Tigers .

mode

The twelve teams played a preliminary round with 32 games per team, consisting of a single round and a further single round in two regional groups. The top ten qualified for the championship round. In this, the eight participants in the joint play-offs with the group North were played. The remaining two teams in the preliminary round played a dovetailing round (single round) with the best eight teams in the Bavarian League .

The SC Riessersee took part in the interlocking round in the 2018/19 season regardless of its final placement in the main round. In the event that he finished the main round in 10th place or better, the eleventh placed was considered athletically qualified for the championship round.

Championship round

Toothing round

The SC Riessersee and the Löwen Waldkraiburg could not qualify for the championship round and therefore play with the strongest teams from the Bavarian League in a dovetailing round to remain in the Oberliga Süd.

Play-offs

The eight teams from the playoff lists of the Oberliga-Nord and Oberliga-Süd qualified for the play-offs. In the first round, for example, the first from the north played against the eighth from the south and vice versa. According to the annual change, the club of the Oberliga Süd was considered to be "better placed" this season, given the same placement in the main round. The playoffs began on March 15, 2019. The winner of the playoffs became German league champions of the 2018/19 season. The best-placed German club qualified for the DEL2 for the 2019/2020 season.
