The Fachhochschule des Mittelstands (FHM) is a private , state-recognized university of applied sciences and was founded in 2000 in Bielefeld by the Paderborn District Craftsmen's Association, the Ostwestfalen-Lippe Chamber of Crafts in Bielefeld and the West German Chamber of Crafts . The current partner is the Education & Crafts Foundation from Paderborn.

profile

Since the foundation of the Fachhochschule des Mittelstands (FHM) in 2000, the goal has been the practical qualification of specialists and managers with business know-how for medium-sized businesses. The range of courses includes courses in business, media, human resources / health / social affairs, as well as new engineering and tourism.

Starting from the head office in Bielefeld , the Fachhochschule des Mittelstands (FHM) currently maintains locations in Bamberg , Berlin , Frechen , Hanover , Cologne , Munich , Rostock and Schwerin .

Location development: The campus in Schwerin was added to the existing locations on February 1, 2013, when FHM took over the operations of the Baltic College in Schwerin . The Bamberg location was added on September 1, 2013 and emerged from the former Bamberg University of Applied Sciences, located in Bamberg . Studies at FHM in Berlin started in October 2017 after being prepared in autumn 2016. The FHM in Pulheim also moved to Frechen in June 2020.

The FHM cooperates with the British universities University of Gloucestershire , University of Worcester and the Royal Agricultural University .

The university's own institute for medium-sized companies (IfM) also contributes to applied research at the FHM with national and international projects.

In addition, the German-Asian Mittelstandsinstitut (DAMI) operates the FHM preparatory college. The FHM-Studienkolleg is aimed at international applicants who want to study at a university in Germany and do not yet have a corresponding university entrance qualification. In order to acquire the same, the FHM preparatory college offers applicants the following preparatory training programs for the acquisition of the university entrance qualification:

  • PSP International
  • Pre-Studies Program (PSP)
  • Intercultural Program for Freshman (ICPF)

Since February 1, 2017, the first students have been enrolled in the Pre-Studies Program (PSP Integra) for refugees. By participating in the program sponsored by the DAAD and thus free of charge for the fellows, young adult refugees acquire the knowledge and skills they need to start and successfully complete their studies in Germany.

Education

The FHM offers full-time courses, part-time courses for working people, distance learning courses and dual study models developed in cooperation with business. In cooperation with the chambers of skilled trades, a triple course was also developed, which is intended to combine classic vocational training in a skilled trade and master craftsman qualification with a scientific bachelor's degree.

The new TOP-UP study model enables a shortened study program by crediting and recognizing preliminary work from an apprenticeship.

degrees

The degrees at the FHM were converted to Bachelor and Master degrees in 2010 . All programs are in the accreditation agency FIBAA (Foundation for International Business Administration Accreditation) or AHPGS (accreditation agency in the field of health and social affairs) accredited .
