Fontevraud-l'Abbaye is a French commune in the department of Maine-et-Loire in the region of Pays de la Loire in Arrondissement Saumur and in the canton of Saumur . The municipality covers 14.86 square kilometers at 37 to 114 m above sea level and has 1536 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017). The municipality is part of the Loire-Anjou-Touraine Regional Nature Park .

Attractions

Abbaye de Fontevraud , one of the most extensive monastery complexes in France despite the destruction during the French Revolution , prison 1804–1963 , renovation work since then.
Parish Church of Saint-Michel, 12th century, expanded in the 15th and 17th centuries; nave, choir with Anjou - vault , richly decorated with architectural sculptures; Altars from the abbey church; richly carved gilded tabernacle on the high altar (1621); numerous paintings.
Former Sainte-Catherine cemetery chapel of the monastery, early 13th century; octagonal vault that merges into a death lantern.
