The Oberliga Südwest 1983/84 was the sixth season of the third-rate league.

The FC Homburg was champion and qualified for the promotion round to 2. Bundesliga , where he secured as a sovereign first in the southern group of the climb. In the German amateur championship final round, Eintracht Trier took part, in which the team was eliminated in the semi-finals against the later amateur champions Offenburg FV . The Röchling Völklingen and Glas-Chemie Wirges clubs were relegated to the association leagues as soon as they were promoted. In return, FC Ensdorf (Saar) , SC Birkenfeld (southwest) and TuS Mayen (Rhineland) rose as the respective association league champions in the following season.
