The Oberliga Südwest 1984/85 was the seventh season of the third-class league.

The FSV Salmrohr became champions and qualified for the promotion round to the 2nd Bundesliga , in which he failed in the southern group, however, just one point behind a promotion place. 1. FSV Mainz 05 took part in the German amateur championship finals, but they were eliminated in the preliminary round. The clubs FC Ensdorf as promoted, FC St. Wendel and SV Leiwen relegated to the association leagues . The Ensdorfer failed only because of the poorer goal difference against the clubs from Mayen and Elversberg. In return, FSV Saarwellingen (Saar) , FK Clausen (Southwest) and VfL Hamm / Sieg (Rhineland) rose as the respective association league champions for the following season.
