The Oberliga Südwest 1982/83 was the fifth season of the third-class league.
The 1. FC Saarbrücken was champion and qualified for the promotion round to 2. Bundesliga , where they secured second place in the southern group of the climb. FC 08 Homburg took part in the German amateur championship final, in which the team won the title by beating the second representative from FC Bayern Munich in the final .
For the next season, the league was downsized again, so that four teams had to be relegated this season. The clubs FK Clausen , VfL Neustadt / Weinstraße , FC Ensdorf and VfL Hamm / Sieg were relegated to the association leagues. In return, SV Röchling Völklingen (Saar) , 1. FC Kaiserslautern Amateure (Southwest) and SpVgg EGC Wirges (Rhineland) rose as the respective relay champions for the following season.
