Gallery of signposts in Saxony

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In this gallery of the Saxon signpost pillars , the exact locations and other characteristics of the signpost pillars erected in the Kingdom of Saxony from the beginning of the 19th century are to be explained in more detail and existing photos collected. The basis for the autonomous establishment of these signposts by the responsible municipalities was an ordinance of the state government of January 29, 1820, which was valid until 1934, as the wooden signposts from the 17th and 18th centuries, the so-called arm columns , no longer exist or at least were out of date. Ordinances of February 28, 1820 and August 29, 1820 are also mentioned. The locally or regionally differently designed signpost pillars do not belong to the Kursächsische post mile pillars or Royal Saxon milestones or kilometer stones and bear i. d. R. Distance information with the Saxon journey hours valid from 1721–1840 (1 hour / hour = 4.531 km) or kilometers. Since the columns were often overlooked in the dark, many of the objects made from local stone were painted white; therefore many are still sufficiently known as “white stones”. In Saxony they are individually listed as cultural monuments , but not as a whole.

Received stones

City of Chemnitz

At the entrance to Lichtenwalde, but still on Ebersdorfer Flur, there is the district column. This column is also a classic signpost column, but has information on the adjacent corridors at the foot and is therefore listed as a district column. The column is a copy of the original which, curiously enough, differs significantly from the original.

A tall, slender column made of Hilbersdorf porphyry tuff has stood on Long Wing 2 in the Rabenstein Forest since 1869. In 2005 it was replaced by a sandstone copy.
