history

With the decree of the kk Oberlandesgericht Linz on July 4, 1850, three separate district courts were initially created for what is now the area of the city of Linz and the neighboring municipality. The so-called "District Court Linz I. Section zu Linz" comprised the five tax communities Linz , Lower Suburb Linz , St. Peter , Kleinmünchen and Traun , the "District Court Linz II. Section Linz" the seven tax communities Dörnbach , Upper Suburb Linz , Holzheim , Ruefling , Leonding , Wilhering and Schönering and the “District Court Linz III. Section zu Linz “the 23 tax communities of the later judicial district Urfahr . The “District Court Linz III. Section ”was changed to“ Urfahr bei Linz ”in 1850. The District Courts I. and II. Sections were subsequently merged, whereby the judicial district included the municipalities of Hörsching, Kirchberg, Kleinmünchen, Leonding, Oftering, Pasching, St. Peter, Traun and Wilhering in 1900.

Although the municipality of Urfahr, including the municipality of Pöstlingberg, was incorporated into the city of Linz from the Urfahr judicial district in 1915, the district north of the Danube still remained part of the Urfahr judicial district. St. Magdalena, which was incorporated into Linz in the 1930s, initially remained part of the Urfahr judicial district.

After the National Socialists came to power, the Sankt Florian judicial district was dissolved on June 15, 1943 and the municipalities assigned to the Linz judicial district. This dissolution finally became legally effective in 1958 when the judicial districts of Urfahr, Sankt Florian and Ottensheim were dissolved by a federal law.

In the course of the dissolution of the Urfahr and Sankt Florian judicial districts, the area of the Linz judicial district was completely reorganized so that it now only comprised the urban area of Linz. From now on, the Linz District Court was also responsible for the urban areas north of the Danube. In return, the Urfahr-Umgebung judicial district was re-established instead of the Urfahr judicial district without the areas of Urfahr and St. Magdalena. The remaining areas of the Linz judicial district together with the municipalities of the dissolved St. Florian judicial district formed the Linz-Land judicial district .

Since 2013, the judicial district no longer includes all of Linz, as the districts of Pöstlingberg, St. Magdalena and Urfahr have been assigned to the Urfahr judicial district .
