Mahamadou Habib Habibou (born April 16, 1987 in Bria , Central African Republic ) is a Central African- French football player on the position of a striker .

life and career

Start of career and first steps in professional football

Habibou was born in 1987 in Bria, the capital of Haute-Kotto , one of the 14 prefectures of the Central African Republic, and came to France with his family at a young age . There he played from 1998 to 2000 in the youth of the provincial club CO Vincennois , where he acted together with the later French international Blaise Matuidi and, among other things, the future Algerian team player Yacine Brahimi was in action from 2000 to 2004. In 2000, the striker, who later also received French nationality, was accepted by INF Clairefontaine and after a year moved from there to the youth department of Paris Saint-Germain , where he went through all youth division until 2005. This year he finally moved to the neighboring country of Belgium , where he was accepted into the youth department of Sporting Charleroi and after just one year he was pulled up to the professional team of Les Zèbres . Habibou made his professional league debut on July 29, 2006 in the 0-0 home draw against Lierse SK , when he came on the lawn in the 73rd minute of play for the Brazilian Orlando dos Santos Costa . Up until the winter break in December 2006, the Central African, who was trained as a striker, was used in a total of seven top division games and was loaned to AFC Tubize in the Belgian second division for the remainder of the season . There he was very successful as a goalscorer and scored a total of ten goals in 13 league appearances. With the team, however, he could only achieve one place in the middle of the table; Sporting Charleroi reached a fifth place in the final standings of the First Division. After returning to his traditional club, he was there again until the winter break in December; after that, the tall attacking player was awarded several times. This time the trip went to Romania , where he received a loan contract for half a season with the capital club Steaua Bucharest . While he scored two goals in ten league appearances in Charleroi and brought the team to another place in the middle of the table in the final standings, he scored one goal from eight championship games in Bucharest and became runner-up with the team with only one point behind CFR Cluj of the highest Romanian champions Soccer league .

Breakthrough after loan stations

After Habibou began his return from the former Eastern Bloc , he became a regular at Sporting Charleroi from the 2008/09 season . He was able to record stakes in 30 of 34 possible league games and was also the top scorer of his team with nine goals; nevertheless it was only enough for the Les Zèbres in 12th place in the final table . He missed two games this season due to a muscle fiber tear. In the following season 2009/10 he was unable to match his performance from the previous season and made 18 appearances, five goals and three assists over the entire season , making him only the second best goalscorer behind Frenchman Cyril Théréau with twelve goals Teams. Over the entire season, the Central African and his team could not break away from the bottom of the table, barely missed relegation to the second division and ended the season in 13th place in the table. Also in the play-off, in which Habibou was used in three of his team's six games, the team only reached fourth and last place in their group.

Change to Zulte Waregem

In the summer of 2010, Habib Habibou switched to league competitor, SV Zulte Waregem ; Nothing is known about a possible transfer fee. In the 2010/11 season he completed 25 of 30 league games that were possible and was successful as a goal scorer ten times and provided six assists. He was once again the strongest attacking player on his team. While he came in eleventh place in the final with Zulte Waregem, his previous home club from Charleroi had to go to the Belgian second division as bottom of the table and loser in the subsequent relegation. In the play-off phase of the 2010/11 season, Habibou was used in all six games of his team, with two goals and an assist also demonstrated his offensive talent. For much of the 2011/12 season , the native Central African with a French passport was injured. So he was only used from the 8th round of the game, but had to back off after five league appearances and was out up to and including the 19th round. During this time he completed a trial training at Brighton & Hove Albion in the winter of 2011 , with which, although he had received positive attention, no agreement was reached and Habibou continued to stay with Zulte Waregem. After he returned in mid-January, he was able to play two more games at the end of the season and thus only made 14 league appearances by the end of the season, in which he scored two goals and prepared another for his teammate Teddy Chevalier . With the team he finally found himself in the lower quarter of the table.

In terms of the number of stakes, 2012/13 was similar to the previous season for Habibou. In 14 missions, which he completed up to the 24th round, he was able to show again of his offensive strength, as he scored six goals and prepared another three for his teammates. Also worth mentioning is the 4-1 away win over Lierse SK on September 29, 2012, in which the striker was involved in four goals for his team, scoring three goals and doing the preparatory work for Franck Berrier's goals. At the beginning of February 2013, the 1.92 m tall attacking player moved to England on loan , where he signed a six-month contract with the second division Leeds United with the option of a fixed change after the loan period expired. As early as January of the same year, it was reported that Habibou was in contact with various English clubs, including Leeds United and Queens Park Rangers , where Harry Redknapp expressed his enthusiasm for the 25-year-old striker. After playing for the Belgians on January 26, 2013, he played his first league game for The Peacocks exactly one week later when he played for El Hadji Diouf in the 0-1 home defeat against Cardiff City from the 73rd minute Lawn came. By mid-March, Habib Habibou had a total of four league appearances for Leeds United and was then mainly used in the club's reserve team until the end of the season, but was still on the substitute bench of the professional team in most games. There was no contract submission and permanent commitment to the club after the loan period expired. With Leeds United he created a place in the middle of the table; with his ancestral club, SV Zulte Waregem, he even made it to the runner-up title behind RSC Anderlecht and the associated participation in the third qualifying round for the 2013/14 UEFA Champions League . In this competition, the right-footed player took part in both games of his team and was eliminated early with a total score of 0: 5 against PSV Eindhoven from the Netherlands .

From Waregem to Ghent

Due to the defeats there, the losers of the third qualifying round for the Champions League took part in the play-off phase for the 2013/14 Europa League . With a total score of 3: 2, the team made it into the subsequent group stage, where they were finally eliminated from the current competition as third in group D. Habibou was used in six of his team's eight games and scored the opening goal for his team in the important 2-1 win in the play-off second leg against APOEL Nicosia . In the league, the Central African , who alternated as a center forward and left winger , became a regular again and thus came to a record of 17 league appearances for Zulte Waregem, in which he scored nine goals and made four assists. He was together with Thorgan Hazard , who came over 29 league appearances on the same number of goals scored, the most successful goalscorer of his team. Still in action for SV Zulte Waregem in December, the aggressively strong right-footed player moved to the new year within the Belgian first class for a rumored transfer fee of 1.6 million euros to KAA Gent , where he signed a three-and-a-half year contract until June 30, 2017. At the club from East Flanders , he played his first official game on January 18, 2014 in the 0-1 home defeat against KV Kortrijk and was already in action for the full length of the game. By the end of the season, he finally made nine league appearances in which he scored four goals, including a hat-trick against Cercle Bruges on March 8, 2014, one of which was voted “Goal of the Week”. Furthermore, he also came to an assist in the league events of the KAA Gent, in which he is used exclusively as a center forward. While Zulte Waregem reached fourth place in the final table, the native of Central African and his team finished seventh. In the subsequent play-off, Habib Habibou was able to prove his scoring ability again, scoring seven goals, including two hat tricks, in six games. In the Belgian Football Cup 2013/14 he played three games for SV Zulte Waregem, for which he scored two goals, as well as three games for KAA Gent, for which he remained goalless. With the team he was eliminated in the semifinals against his ex-club from Waregem in West Flanders , which only lost 1-0 to Sporting Lokeren in the final .

About the French excellence as a loan player to Turkey

In the 2014/15 season , Habibou played three league games by the end of August 2014. In his first game of the season, a 3-1 win over his ex-club Zulte Waregem, Habibou scored one goal and prepared another for his teammates. Already in the beginning of May 2014 there was a possible interest of Werder Bremen in the native Central African; this rumor of a change persisted in August of the same year. Furthermore, Hamburger SV and the Russian top club ZSKA Moscow vied for the now 27-year-old offensive talent; There was talk of an estimated transfer fee of three million euros. On the last day of the transfer window, the offensive player moved to the French first division team Stade Rennes for a rumored transfer fee of 2.5 million euros , where he signed a three-year contract. He then made his competitive debut with the French on September 20 in a 3-0 defeat against Olympique Marseille , after he sat on the bench for the first time unused on September 13 in the 1-1 draw against Paris Saint-Germain . In the game against Marseille, the center forward was substituted on from the 68th minute of the game for the young French national player Abdoulaye Doucouré .

Under Philippe Montanier he then came to longer missions until about the beginning of December, where he had made two hits and one template by then. After that, the Central African was demoted to a substitute player and, albeit regularly, almost exclusively only made short appearances or was often unused on the substitute bench. Montanier only used him in two league games until the end of the 2014/15 season , when Stade Rennes ranked ninth in the final standings, over the full game. Habib Habibiou came to a total of 26 appearances in Ligue 1, where he scored three goals and contributed one template. Furthermore, he was used in two games of the Coupe de France 2014/15 and sat on the bench when eliminated in the round of 16 against AS Monaco . He was also used in all three Stade Rennes games in the Coupe de la Ligue 2014/15 and was eliminated with the team in the quarter-finals against SC Bastia . The offensive player also played in the club's B team this season; in a 2-1 win over Sablé FC , he scored a goal on February 22, 2015. In the following season 2015/16 Habibou was no longer considered by coach Montanier for his squad formation and was not in the squad of the French first division club for most of this season. After he sat on the bench for the first time in two consecutive league games between the end of August and mid-September, the coach replaced him on October 4, 2015 in a 1-1 draw against AS Monaco in the 83rd minute as a substitute for Pedro Henrique Concentrate a. This should be his only mission for the French this season; only in a Coupe de la Ligue match did he sit on the bench without being used again in 2015/16 .

On January 22, 2016, Habibou's loan to the Turkish first division club Gaziantepspor was announced until the end of the season . With the Turks he made his competitive debut two days later when he hit the pitch in the 28th minute of the 2: 3 defeat against Bursaspor for the injured Demba Camara , who played his last game for the Turks that day came and among other things contributed a goal assist. The center forward was used in the two subsequent games in the Turkish Football Cup 2015/16 at the end of January against Trabzonspor and Galatasaray Istanbul and scored the only goal of his team in the 3-1 defeat against Galatasaray and the associated elimination from the tournament. Subsequently, the offensive man acted as a regular under Mutlu Topçu , before he tore an inner ligament in his knee in his fourth league appearance, a 2-2 draw against Kayserispor when he ran up on the left winger and had to be replaced after 18 minutes. He then fell out for more than a month due to injury and made his comeback in the league on April 8, 2016. In order to spare the player a little in the following time, he often sat on the bench without a bet. During his loan to Gaziantepspor, the club won only twice in 16 league games and was relegated from the Süper Lig at the end of the season .

After the loan expired, Habibou did not make any further appearances at Stade Rennes. Until November 2017 he was not able to play due to an injury, but even after that he was only part of the squad for two games, but was actually not on the field.

RC Lens, Qatar SC, Petach Tikwa and SC Lokeren

In February 2018, Habibou moved within France to RC Lens , which at the time played in Ligue 2 , the second highest French league. There he was soon back in the squad and was on the field thirteen times in the second half of the season. In the 2017/18 season , Habibou was again not part of the squad in the first three games.

He then moved to Qatar SC in Doha , Qatar . After nine games at the beginning for Qatar, Habibou was no longer included in the respective team from the turn of the year 2017/18. After his contract expired, he did not find a club at first.

In mid-September 2018, he then signed a one-year contract with the Israeli association Hapoel Petach Tikwa . An extension option was agreed for another season. Petach Tikwa played in the Liga Leumit , the second highest Israeli league, this season . Again he was on the pitch at the beginning of the season, this time for eight games. As of December 30, 2018, he was canceled due to a foot operation, so that the extension option was not used.

Again he found no club. It was not until the end of September 2019 that a contract agreement with the Belgian second division club SC Lokeren was concluded for the remainder of the season with the option of an extension for another year. On January 17, 2020, his contract was terminated by Lokeren.

International career

Due to his origin, Habibou would be eligible to play for the Central African national football team, and could also play for the Équipe Tricolore due to his French nationality . Furthermore, a possible call-up to the Belgian national team was reported, which the striker was not averse to. Although he has so far turned down an offer from the Central African national team in the hope of playing in an internationally better off national team, he was called up for a qualifying game for the 2013 African Cup of Nations against Burkina Faso on October 14, 2012 for the first time for the Central African Republic.

After he was not in the squad for the next international matches, his next international match was against Rwanda on November 18, 2018 as part of the qualifying matches for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations . Habibou also scored a goal. The Central African Republic did not take part in the finals of the tournament, having only reached third place in the qualifying group.

Trivia

  • He is the cousin of the two French football professionals Geoffrey and Evans Kondogbia .
  • There was a scandal on October 30, 2010 at a game between SV Zulte Waregem and Sporting Lokeren, when a duck got lost on the pitch during the game and didn't want to leave it, whereupon Habibou caught the animal and threw it roughly over an advertising tape. although the animal was not injured. This earned him the nickname “Duck Catcher of Zulte Waregem”. The Dutch comedian duo De Betweters awarded him the title Sloef van het Seizoen . After various animal welfare organizations got involved and there were even death threats against the Central African-French professional footballer, the latter publicly apologized for his behavior.
