Endgame
The final for the men's indoor handball championship was played on February 28, 1959 in front of 3,000 spectators in Magdeburg's Hermann-Gieseler-Halle .
SC DHfK Leipzig -BSG Motor Gohlis-Nord 20:13 (11: 7) |
- SC DHfK: Horst Dietrichkeit, Boehme (Tor) - Paul Tiedemann (5), Klaus Lang skirt, Reinhardt Geissler (1), Otto Hölke (1), Reiner Leonhardt (2), Siegfried Warm, Erwin Kaldarasch (4), Klaus Miesner ( 3), Horst Quednau (4).
- BSG engine: Ulrich, Gräf (gate) - Wolfgang Niescher (6), Verges, Lindner, Reske (1), Martin (3), Horst Pahlitzsch (2), Drescher, Fuß (1), Fiedler.
In the purely Leipzig final, the DHfK students determined the game from the start. Driven by Paul Tiedemann, they set a pace over the entire season that the BSG players were not up to. In addition, the DHfK players shone with sophisticated technology that they used to create confusing combinations. In defense, they formed an elastic defensive bar behind which they could rely on their safe goalkeeper, who was also able to fend off two seven meters. The Gohlisers, who were in the lead twice in the initial phase, were then too slow in their play area and could not keep up with their stamina. ( Neues Deutschland , March 2, 1959, p. 4)
Field handball championship (men)
In contrast to the indoor championship, only 16 teams played for the field handball title between April and July 1959, also divided into two seasons. Back and forth games were played again as usual, the two season winners played for the championship title. The last two teams had to be relegated. Motor Eisenach entered the race as defending champion, Dynamo Halle and Traktor Lommitzsch were the newcomers to the championship race.

Endgame
On August 9, 1959, the final of the GDR men's field handball championship took place in the Max Reimann Stadium in Cottbus in front of 7,000 spectators.
ASK Vorwärts Berlin - SC Dynamo Berlin 17:13 (9: 4) |
While there was a Leipzig city duel in the indoor final, two East Berlin teams fought for the championship title in field handball, ASK and SC Dynamo . The favorite were the policemen of SC Dynamo, which had already become champions in 1956 and 1957. The army handball players, however, were in a handball final for the first time. But they determined the action from the start with their powerful attacking game and had already shot out a five-goal lead at the break. National players Waldemar Pappusch and Klaus Hebler stood out in particular. On the other hand, the dynamo strikers were surprisingly weak, too immobile and failed when they shot on goal. The defenders became increasingly nervous, the 37-year-old Dynamo goalkeeper Horst Groß had a bad day and let several durable shots happen. ( New Germany , August 10, 1959, p. 4)
- ASK forward: Gerhard Schulze (goal) - Herbert Liedtke, Ettrichrätz, Reinhold Glandien, Manfred Krost, Waldemar Pappusch (5), Gerhard Schmiele (1), Klaus Hebler (5), Klaus Müller, Schedlbauer, Hans Haberhauffe (6)
- SC Dynamo: Horst Groß (goal) - Heinz Greye, Rudolf Kosche (1), Klaus Petzold , Günther Köhler, Walter Kulawig (1), Heinz Diedering (3), Rudolf Hirsch (1), Otto Naumann (4), Klaus- Dieter Matz (2), Dieter Mannewitz (1)

SC Progress Weissenfels - SC Rotation Berlin 10: 4 (7: 1) |
The decision about the championship was already decided in the first half of the game after the Weißenfels team had thrown out a 6-goal lead. Berlin's nervous goalkeeper had given a lot of shooting help when she let three durable hits pass up to the 0: 4. But beyond that, the progress women were superior to their opponents in all respects, whereby Martina Maudrich in goal and field player Inge Schanding stood out in particular.
SC progress: Martina Maudrich, Meinicke, Inge Schanding, Hildegard Baumert, Inge Jahn, Erika Scholz, Erika Quarg, Leschek, Geppert, Kühn, Brandt SC Rotation: Krause, Jastrow, Ilse Schulz, Schönherr, Monika Parlow, Voss, Ottmann, Hesse, Schneider, Merten |

Endgame
The women's field handball final was played on October 11, 1959 in Weimar.
SC progress Weißenfels - BSG locomotive Rangsdorf 8: 3 (4: 2) |
In the new edition of the finals of 1957 and 1958, progress Weissenfels and Lok Rangsdorf met again, and for the third time, the progress women left the field as winners. The players showed themselves to be experienced and strong at fighting, while the locomotive players looked disheveled and were not consistently covered enough in defense. Rangsdorf was able to achieve an intermittent 2-2 draw, after which they only ran after the leadership of the Weißenfels team, which was gradually expanded to a 5-goal advantage. ( New Germany , October 12, 1959, p. 4)
Goals: Schanding (3), Jahn (3), Quarg (2) for Weißenfels; Scholz, Krüger, Aldermann (1 each) for Rangsdorf
