Haut-Intyamon is a municipality in the Gruyère district of the canton of Friborg in Switzerland . The municipality was created on January 1, 2002 through the merger of the formerly independent municipalities Albeuve , Lessoc , Montbovon and Neirivue . The municipal administration is located in Albeuve.

geography

Haut-Intyamon is about 12 km south of the district capital Bulle (as the crow flies). The municipality is located in the Haute-Gruyère, in the Intyamon valley of the Saane (French: Sarine), in the Friborg Alps east of the Moléson chain.

The area of the 60.4 km² municipality covers a section of the Haute-Gruyère in the Freiburg Alps. The central part of the area is formed by the Saane Valley, which extends in a south-south-west-north-northeast direction. To the north of the village of Lessoc, the Saane forms an approximately 1 km wide flat valley, with the northern border in the area of the hilly landscape of Les Cressets . At Lessoc there is the large cone of debris from the torrent torrent , which pushes the Saane right to the western edge of the valley. The river is dammed here to form Lake Lessoc. South of the lake there is only a narrow valley low; the border runs through the narrow point on the Saanebogen between Montbovon and La Tine.

Only a relatively small part of the municipality is located east of the Saane. It covers the catchment area of the Torrent , with the boundary over the heights of Les Milliets ( 1886  m above sea level ), Pra de Cray (at 2090  m above sea level, the highest point of Haut-Intyamon) and Pointe de Cray ( 2070  m above sea level ) m above sea level ).

The part of the municipality to the west of the Saane is much more subdivided by the valleys of the Marive and Hongrin . The former separates the two eastern foothills of the Moléson range, Vanil Blanc ( 1828  m above sea level ) and Entre Deux Dents ( 1619  m above sea level ) , through the Evi gorge . The western border is mostly on the watershed between the Saane and the Lake Geneva region (which is also the main European watershed between the Rhine and the Rhone ). It runs on the limestone peaks of the Moléson chain from north to south over Moléson (up to 2000  m above sea level ), Dent de Lys ( 2014  m above sea level ), Vanil des Artses ( 1991  m above sea level ), Cape au Moine ( 1941  m above sea level ) and extends to the eastern roof of the Rochers de Naye (up to 1982  m above sea level ). There are extensive alpine meadows on the east side of this chain. The extreme south of the municipality is occupied by the lower part of the Hongrin valley.

In 1997, 2% of the municipal area was in settlements, 37% in forests and woodlands, 48% in agriculture and a little more than 13% was unproductive land.

Haut-Intyamon consists of the villages Neirivue ( 754  m above sea level ), Albeuve ( 769  m above sea level ), Lessoc ( 812  m above sea level ) and Montbovon ( 797  m above sea level ). In addition, the hamlets Le Bu ( 823  m above sea level ) on a terrace east of the Saane, Les Sciernes d'Albeuve ( 900  m above sea level ) on a slope terrace at the eastern foot of the Dent de Lys, Comba d'Avau ( 807  m above sea level ) and Comba d'Amont ( 840  m above sea level ) in the Hongrin valley, Vers les Moret ( 821  m above sea level ) and Vers les Pichon ( 870  m above sea level ) on the left slope of the valley the Saane above Montbovon as well as numerous individual farms and alpine huts to the community. Neighboring municipalities of Haut-Intyamon are Châtel-Saint-Denis , Semsales , Gruyères , Bas-Intyamon and Grandvillard in the canton of Friborg and Château-d'Oex , Rossinière , Veytaux , Montreux and Blonay in the canton of Vaud .

population

With 1542 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2018), Haut-Intyamon is one of the medium-sized communities in the canton of Friborg. 94.3% of the residents are French-speaking, 3.1% German-speaking and 0.6% speak Spanish (as of 2000). The population of Haut-Intyamon was 1730 in 1900. In the course of the 20th century the population decreased by more than 30% due to strong emigration and reached a temporary low in 1980 with 1209 inhabitants. Since then, the population has increased again (especially during the 1980s).

economy

Haut-Intyamon was a predominantly agricultural village until the middle of the 20th century . Marble was quarried at Lessoc until after the First World War . Even today, livestock and dairy farming (for the production of Gruyère cheese ) and, to a lesser extent, arable farming play an important role in the income structure of the population. The community has extensive alpine pastures for the summer grazing of the livestock.

Further jobs are available in local small businesses and in the service sector. In the course of the 20th century, smaller companies in the furniture industry, the building trade, mechanical workshops, joineries and sawmills have settled in Haut-Intyamon. The Saane's hydropower is used by an electricity company near Montbovon; At Lessoc, turbines are operated again due to the altitude below the reservoir, which has existed since 1972. In the past few decades, Haut-Intyamon has also developed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who work primarily in the Bulle region.

traffic

The community is very well developed in terms of traffic. It is located on the main road from Bulle to Château-d'Oex . On July 23, 1903, the railway line from Bulle to Montbovon with stations in all four villages of the municipality of Haut-Intyamon was put into operation. Montbovon is also on the route of the Montreux-Berner-Oberland-Bahn ; the Montreux-Montbovon section was inaugurated on October 1, 1903, the continuation to Saanen on July 6, 1905.

history

Almost the entire municipality of Haut-Intyamon (except Albeuve) belonged to the county of Gruyères since the Middle Ages . After the last Count of Gruyères went bankrupt in 1554, the area came under the rule of Freiburg in 1555 and was assigned to the Vogtei of Gruyères. After the collapse of the Ancien Régime (1798), Haut-Intyamon initially belonged to the prefecture and from 1848 to the Gruyères district.

On June 26, 2001, the voters of the communities of Albeuve , Lessoc , Montbovon and Neirivue voted with a yes majority of around 80% in favor of the community merger. For the new community the names Albeuve or Haut-Intyamon were up for discussion, the latter being favored by the population. With effect from January 1, 2002, the new municipality of Haut-Intyamon was created, the municipality of which is located in Albeuve.

Since 2012, the community has been part of the Parc naturel régional Gruyère Pays-d'Enhaut .
