The Hessenpokal 2016/17 was the 72nd edition of the men's soccer cup competition. Like most of the other state cup finals, the final in the Hessenpokal took place on May 25, 2017 in order to enable a live broadcast of all the final as a conference call on ARD . The Wiesbaden Brita Arena was selected for the first time as the final venue for the encounter between SV Rot-Weiß Hadamar and SV Wehen Wiesbaden . SV Wehen Wiesbaden won 5: 4 on penalties after they had been 1: 1 after 90 and 120 minutes.

The cup winner receives the right to start the DFB-Pokal 2017/18 . If the cup winner has already qualified for the DFB Cup with one of the top four places in the 3rd division , the loser of the final is qualified for the DFB Cup.

No two teams from a club or a corporation are allowed to participate in the games for the DFB club cup.

Participating teams

For the knockout stages of are FSV Frankfurt ( relegated to the third league ), SV Wehen Wiesbaden ( 3. Liga ) Kickers Offenbach ( Regional Southwest ), KSV Hessen Kassel (Regional Southwest), TSV Steinbach (Regional Southwest), Teutonia Watzenborn- Steinberg ( 1st place Hessenliga 15/16 ), Rot-Weiss Frankfurt (2nd place Hessenliga 15/16) and as the winner of the fair play rating of the association game classes of TuS Dietkirchen (Association League Middle) and FC Germania Rothenbergen (relegated to the district upper league ) qualified. Due to the relegation of FSV Frankfurt, a playoff must be played. It was decided that the worst regional league (TSV Steinbach) and the runner-up of the Hessenliga (Rot-Weiss Frankfurt) will play this game.
