The Frankfurt School of Finance & Management is a private , state-recognized business university . The sponsor is the Frankfurt School of Finance & Management non-profit GmbH. It has several branch offices in Germany.

history

The university emerged on January 17, 2007 from the Bank Academy and the University of Banking Economics (HfB). The HfB, for its part, was founded in 1990 as a university of applied sciences with a focus on banking and finance, and in 2004 it became a scientific university.

In 1957 the Bankakademie e. V. founded by Gabler Verlag in Wiesbaden. 1966, the association with regional associations of the private banking industry and the Association of Cooperative Banks was re-established as members and offered further training in banking specialist and Bankbetriebswirt on. In the 1970s, the spectrum was also expanded to include a management course with the non-academic degree "Diplomierte Bankbetriebswirt".

The University of Banking Economics (HfB) was founded in 1990 under the umbrella of the Bank Academy . In 1994 the first 35 students graduated with a degree in business administration . The main difference of the educational offer compared to other private (technical) universities was that the business administration course was combined with the possibility of parallel professional practice on a part-time basis without reducing the scope of the course itself.

New Frankfurt School campus

As part of the Bologna Process , the HfB introduced the Bachelor and Master system in 2000. The model of job-integrated academic training was adopted in the job-integrated course leading to a Bachelor or Master of Science. In addition, more and more classic full-time courses with an international focus were introduced. In 2001 the HfB moved to its new campus in Frankfurt's Ostend . In 2003 the first Master’s students graduated.

On November 3rd, 2004 the HfB was transferred to a scientific university. In 2007, both institutions were united under the common roof of the Frankfurt School of Finance & Management. Since January 2008 the Frankfurt School of Finance & Management has been a non-profit limited company supported by the foundation of the same name .

The Frankfurt School currently has 67 professors. Both in the full-time and in the part-time courses, the main focus is now on general business administration. The formerly sole eponymous focus on financial services and management still characterize all courses, but are now primarily offered through elective modules and specialized master's courses. The quota of Frankfurt School graduates who go into industry was recently around 5%. The Frankfurt School of Finance & Management works with around 120 partner universities.

The educational institution moved to the Adickesallee campus in Frankfurt's Nordend in the 2017/18 winter semester . The new building was built between 2014 and 2017 on the site of the former regional finance office in Frankfurt am Main .

Admission process

A two-stage application process is carried out for admission. An assessment center follows the written application . The assessment center for the Bachelor programs consists of several written tests in which analytical and logical skills, team skills, general economic knowledge and foreign language skills are tested in English , and a group exercise. In addition, applicants are interviewed by two people. Interviewers are usually a representative of the university - for example a professor or one of the program directors - and a representative of a company with which the Frankfurt School works. A language certificate must also be submitted for the two English-language Bachelor programs offered ( GER language level C1).

Quality in teaching

All courses are evaluated by the students. Learning objectives are also defined for the individual study programs, i.e. competencies and skills that the students should have acquired by the end of their studies. In this way, the university not only checks its students, but also its own teaching performance. There are dedicated employees for quality management.

The new logo

The logo is an artificial signet in which, in addition to echoes of the dollar , euro , yen and pound currency symbols, the mathematical-scientific symbols for equal / unequal and infinite can be recognized. The colors were originally dark blue (the color of the bank academy) and yellow-orange (formerly HfB).

The old logo

The Frankfurt communications agency Maleki Group filed an objection to the trademark on March 30, 2007 with an attempt to allow the Frankfurt School of Finance & Management to use the name components "Frankfurt" and "Finance", the logo and the color combination blue / yellow prohibit.

Before the Landgericht Frankfurt am Main was on 10 November 2009 in a public Presiding Justice Kastner goodness appointment stated that a similarity between the signs is not given. With regard to the color combination, a comparison was advised in which the Frankfurt School dispenses with the yellow tones in the logo. Since August 30, 2010, the Frankfurt School has been using the combination of blue / white in the color design of the logo.

The Frankfurt School of Finance & Management has had a new logo since September 1, 2015. The addition “Bankakademie HfB” has been dropped and the motto “German Excellence. Global Relevance. ”Has been replaced.

Temporary right to confer doctorates

The Frankfurt School has had a doctoral program since 2005 that leads to the academic degree Dr. rer. pole. concludes. The right to award doctorates was initially granted for a limited period until December 31, 2010, the time limit was extended once for five years. The private school's right to award doctorates is not undisputed. In a statement on accreditation, the Science Council noted that the Frankfurt School had "only taken energetic steps very late in order to underpin the right to confer doctorates with adequate research achievements" and expressly excluded the limited-time doctorate from the accreditation, which was granted for ten years . According to the Science Council, the Frankfurt School failed to create the institutional and infrastructural requirements for a research environment. He therefore sees "currently no sufficient scientific basis to recommend an unlimited or further extension of the previously limited doctoral right for the Frankfurt School." After allegations of plagiarism, the doctoral degree was withdrawn from the first graduate who received his doctorate at the Frankfurt School in 2007 . In a renewed examination of the right to award doctorates, the Science Council determined in 2015 that “the Frankfurt School corresponds to the scientific standards of a university that is equivalent to a university [...]. The Science Council therefore recommends the State of Hesse to extend the Frankfurt School's existing right to award doctorates. ”On the basis of the expert opinion of the Science Council in the context of the so-called“ compact procedure for doctorate rights ”, the Hessian Ministry of Science and Art finally granted the“ unlimited time limit ”at the end of 2016 “Of the right to award doctorates for the Frankfurt School.
