history

The place was mentioned in writing for the first time in 1239 as Superior Hozlem and was created at a toll station on an old trade route. Other historical names are Félfalu (1329), Felfolu (1520) and Hornyawes (16th century). If the village was previously part of the estate of the Sivý Kameň castle , it belonged to the estate of the Hrušov castle at the end of the 14th and the entire 15th century and thus also to the Ilsway (1408) and Majthény families .

The village came into the possession of the Hunyady family through leasing in the 16th century , who had a small fortress built on the edge of the village as early as the 15th century, which became a fortified country castle in the 16th century. In 1715, besides a mill, craftsmen such as blacksmiths, locksmiths and wheelwright are mentioned, later also linen weavers (eleven in 1736) and sieve makers. In 1787 the first parish was created by outsourcing it from the parish of Oslany , immediately with the construction of the new church.

Even after the abolition of serfdom in 1848, the Majthény family kept a large estate in and around the place, which was large in 1948 under the cadastral hold . In the late 19th century, the furniture company Thonet used the large forests as a source of raw materials for its factory in neighboring Veľké Uherce .

Until 1918, the place in Bars County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia. In 1923 the large estate was expropriated by the Czechoslovak state and in 1941 partially parceled out.
