IC 1520 is a spiral galaxy of Hubble type Sc in the constellation Cetus south of the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 406 million light years from the Milky Way and about 80,000 light years in diameter.

Halton Arp organized his catalog of unusual galaxies into groups according to purely morphological criteria. This galaxy belongs to the class spiral galaxies with a small companion of high surface brightness on one arm (Arp catalog) .

The object was discovered by Stéphane Javelle on November 4, 1891 .
