The II. Division 1952/53 was the fourth season of the II. Division , which formed the second highest division in football in parts of Germany between 1949 and 1963. In the 1952/53 season there was a single-track II Division in west , south-west and south Germany . The 2nd Division was not introduced in northern Germany and West Berlin . Here the amateur league was the second highest division.

The VfL Bochum and the Rheydter Spielverein rose to the Oberliga West. Sportfreunde Katernberg and SpVgg Erkenschwick rose from the league . No team was relegated from II. Division West or into II. Division West.

The ASV Landau and VfR Frankenthal rose in the Oberliga Southwest. Hassia Bingen and FV Engers 07 were relegated from the Oberliga Südwest . The VfL Neustadt / Weinstrasse and the SV Weisenau had to stay in the Amateurliga and were ASC Dudweiler and the BSC Oppau replaced.

Ascent round southwest
The champions of the amateur leagues Rhineland , Saarland and Southwest took part in the promotion round . In addition, there were the runner-ups from the Rhineland and the southwest. The cup winners of the Saarland and the southwest determined the sixth and last participant. In Homburg , ASC Dudweiler prevailed 4-0 against Phönix Bellheim . The Rhineland runner-up Germania Urbar decided not to take part, but VfL Trier moved up.

The SSV Jahn Regensburg and KSV Hessen Kassel rose in the Oberliga Süd. TSV 1860 Munich and TSG Ulm 1846 were relegated from the league . The ASV Feudenheim and VfL Neckarau had to dismount in the amateur league and were the FC Hanau 93 and FC Wacker München replaced.

Ascent round south
For the promotion round, the champions of the five southern German amateur leagues and the runner-up in the Bayern League were eligible to participate. The Württemberg champion VfL Sindelfingen waived, but VfR Aalen moved up.
