The Ironman Santa Rosa has been the name of a triathlon sporting event over the Ironman distance (3.86 km swimming, 180.2 km cycling and 42.195 km running) that has been held since 1990 . The race was named "Ironman Vineman" in Windsor in 2016 and has been held under a new name in Santa Rosa since 2017 .

The event is the longest established existing competition over this distance on the US mainland and was organized under the name Vineman until 2015 .

A race over the full Ironman distance has been held here under the direction of Russ Pugh with the "Vineman" since 1990 , making it the oldest existing race over this distance on the mainland of the United States. Since 1991, a race over half the Ironman distance has been held at the same place, which is held until 2005 as Half Vineman , until 2016 as Vineman Ironman 70.3 and since 2017 as Ironman 70.3 Santa Rosa .

Ironman since 2016

The Ironman Vineman was held for the first time under this name in the US state of California on July 30, 2016 after the event was bought by the World Triathlon Corporation (WTC) .

There will be 40 slots for the Ironman Hawaii (Ironman World Championship) in October in the different age groups. Before that, starting places for the Ironman Hawaii were already available at Vineman in the 1990s.

For 2017, the venue was relocated to Santa Rosa , California - together with the Ironman 70.3 Santa Rosa . There were no professionals at the start this year. For 2018, the event has been brought forward to May. The last race here was on May 11, 2019.

Description of the routes in Windsor (until 2016):

  • The race started with swimming in the Russian River .
  • The bike course stretched along the Russian River and in the area around Santa Rosa .
  • The final run was a three-time circuit in Sonoma County .
